The fighting Dream and Techno had taken on the two of themselves could not have been done by any of the others. Two v 100 were impossible odds, yet Dream and Techno were not the average fighters.

They somehow managed to hold them off, long enough for Sapnap, Tommy, and Tubbo to finally reach them at the arch. When they arrived they certainly had much to say about it as well.
"What in the world is going on??" Sapnap called across the landscape at the sight of dozens of fantastic beasts swooping in a flurry down upon his friends.

"Aren't we supposed to be quiet up here?" Tubbo asked. Sapnap had already pulled four his sword, swatting a few this way and that, dwindling techno and Dream's numbers.
"Yes, but clearly they are all aware of our presence." Tommy asked, "So have George and Wilbur gone up to the top then?"
"No! Everything is going wrong!" Dream said fighting with both hands on his axe now. Emotion laced on his tongue. It sent chills down the others spines. His respectability however, did not falter in anyones eyes, much to Technoblades surprise.

He ripped George's arrow down the backbone of one of the phantoms and used it to shield one coming right for him while swinging simultaneously at another with his axe. He was completely in the zone. Sapnap could tell this, One screw-up and he or Techno were likely dead. As this was beginning to catch on to the other boys, Sapnap questioned what was necessary, lightheartedness and jokes long forgotten at the sight of his friend.

"Where's George, and what do we do to help?"
"They're trapped in a cave on the mountainside-"
"Climb to the top" Techno cut in. Dream looked offended.
"What do you mean?"
"We came for the music and Bad did we not? We need to prioritize the mission!"
"Wilbur has his arm trapped under a rock and they're running out of air!"
"And he informed me it's not life-threatening. We continue with the mission!"
"Sapnap!"
"Tommy and Tubbo!"
The three looked very confused. Who do they follow?
"I want to save Wilbur," Tommy said. Techno looked over to Tommy, completely shocked.
"Tommy-" Tubbo said.
"Are you disobeying an order?" Techno said.
"Techno," Dream tried. He was using the same soft tone that had come when he offered to help earlier. The image of his green eyes flashed in his memory before shaking it off.
"Tommy, it's an order"  the situation was enough for Tommy to give up on his attempted rebellion. Techno couldn't argue, especially when fighting off 7 phantoms. He huffed and began climbing up the mountain. Tubbo quickly following.

"Do you guys need more help down here? Or do you want me to go get the others in the cave?" Sapnap called, already torn. He had rushed to the edge of the mountain. He peered over the edge. He had no clue where the cave had once been.

The dust had settled, and the only way someone could tell that it had been a cave before was if they'd seen it themselves. He was at a loss. Torn between what to do. Thankfully, Dream gave him direction as he always did when he needed it most.
"Go up to the top with the others!" he called.
"But why? Everyone needs help here!"
"You won't find George and Wilbur, and those boys won't succeed in getting there without you!" He called.

Sapnap hesitated a moment longer as he looked at his friend. "George will be fine, and so will I. Go!" And he was gone, trusting in his friend's words completely.

"How do you all do that?" Techno asked after the burn of shame had subsided at his harshness towards Tommy. Dream chuckled
"Never thought you'd have the guts to ask about combat advice Techno" he laughed.
"Shut up!" He called, slicing through a beast.
"What then?"
"How you all... talk to one another," He said after a long time. Dream however, didn't hesitate to answer.
"We are family." there was silence for a while before Dream finished "I told you from the start Techno, we are a team. We aren't whatever you have with your platoon" he joked. Techno went quiet again.
"I don't understand"
"Clearly."
"That Sapnap. He spoke so freely, gross emotion clearly in his voice as he spoke to you as if it were easy"
"It is easy" Techno thought to how Dream had spoken with emotion in his voice, how he caught the looks of admiration by Tommy and tubbo. He hadn't missed a single thing, even as he swung and fought with all his might.
"But it isn't' everything." Dream paused. Was Techno right? They were exchanging something with one another at this moment. Eye-opening knowledge that both lacked.
"You're all so suicidal over your love for one another! It's sad! You need to think more logically." Techno said, almost screaming it, even though the numbers of phantoms had thinned out significantly. His sentence rung in Dream's ears and sent chills right down to this toes. It ran through right at the center of his brain.

Part of him wanted to yell at Techno that he was wrong, and the love and care he held for his friends was important above all, but the other side of him was piecing together the idea that not everything had to be so dependant on having one another. He shivered at the idea that they were all individuals who had their own paths.

They had lived before without one another once, not that they would have to live without one another again, but it was certainly doable. Maybe he and his friends were a bit too "do or die". His thoughts swirled together. His head felt lighter and he gripped his axe tighter upon reflex.

Suddenly he smiled. His face lit up, brighter than it had in days as he looked over to Techno.

He took a chance between fighting to throw his mask to the side as he looked at his new comrade. He'd taught him something necessary today. Dream's next words Techno would never forget again, as he'd heard them once before long ago from the very one who caused him to forget how to love.

"You're right Techno, Logic is very important, but it isn't anything without that someone you love who hears you."

Suddenly, he was brought back to the bench that Tommy and Tubbo had taken for themselves. He was young, very young, but just old enough to piece together coherent thoughts and questions. Philza sat there, looking at the sunset as Wilbur ran around with his new ukelele. It reminded Techno of Tommy's useless walkman. It held no purpose, no real value. Or so he seemingly remembered.

"I don't understand," he had once said "love isn't everything. Why is he so obsessed with a piece of junk? Logically, why should it matter if I broke it tomorrow?" Philza laughed with a hearty sound that rang in his ears and seemed to echo throughout the arch they were stood in. He patted to his side, just as the sun sank beneath the earth. Techno sat, the vibrant colors still in his view.

"The sunset is beautiful no? You know colorblind people enjoy it just as much as we do right?" This conversation was starting out very illogical. As they always did, yet Philza always seemed to make a point, so he continued to listen in.
"Cmon, Phil," he'd said. Philza laughed again and continued,
"You're right Techno, logic is very important. But imagine if you did destroy that gift that Wilbur loves tomorrow. What would his response to you be?" he let Techno ponder for a minute in his head to picture the rage that would follow before continuing. "He wouldn't want to talk with you much after that, and you will have missed out on an entire person. Don't you find Wilbur useful?" He thought again. Wilbur did decently well in training and had a good laugh. He also had great conversation... and gave the best hugs, second to Philza. Techno nodded his head. "Well then, that doesn't seem very logical at all then. Logic isn't anything without that someone you love who hears you."
Techno tore his eyes away from Dream and back at the phantom coming straight for him.
"Go. He said finally. "Save him Dream... and if you can, save my brother too." Dream smiled, and without hesitation, jumped off the cliff. Techno was surprised at this. He spoke with emotion in his voice that way Sapnap had moments before, and Dream responded with the same trust he'd seen Sapnap do. He understood now, what it meant. He'd finally remembered.
