Evangeline POV:

I sat on the sidewalk staring down at a small river of water running down towards the drains, Damon still lay unconscious beside me. After snapping his neck I felt instant guilt so instead of running off like I'd planned I stayed here, waiting for him to wake up so I could apologize.

I should be looking for Elijah right now, I should be trying to explain myself before he was gone forever. Instead I was stuck here on the curb waiting for Damon to wake up and inevitably yell at me. I was just setting myself up for even more pain. Damon wouldn't be awake for a couple hours and by then who knows where Elijah would be, I'd lose them both.

I stood from the sidewalk and brushed my pants off, walking over to Damon where I knelt beside him. "I'm so sorry, brother, please understand." I brushed his hair back from his forehead before sliding his phone from his pocket and standing up again, this time I walked away.

Dialing Elijah again I waited for him to pick up the phone, but he didn't. The answering machine droned on about 'the person you are trying to reach is not available' and 'leave a message after the beep'. Like it was purposely rubbing it in my face that Elijah was mad at me. "Elijah, it's me. Just please let me explain, call me if you listen to this. Please." I practically begged into the phone before hanging up, I didn't try again.

"Well that was touching." I stopped in my tracks at the sound of the voice. "Has my brother found out about your little secret?"

"Go away, Klaus." I snapped, I was in no mood for this. I didn't even want to see him. "I said goodbye for a reason."

Klaus appeared before me with a gush of air and I almost jumped. "Well sweetheart, I'm all you've really got left. My brother resents you, when your brother wakes he will resent you, I'm sure Marcel resents you for not alerting him of my return when you found out, Katerina is gone, and my brother Kol is dead."

"And I left you, I said goodbye to you. So go away and leave me in peace."

"Why? So you can leave Elijah some more heartfelt messages?" Klaus laughed and I rolled my eyes at him. "Now you've spent a bit of time here recently, so tell me, where can I find Sophie Devereaux?"

I scoffed, moving to walk past him only to be grabbed and pulled back. "I have no interest in helping you, Klaus, find her yourself."

"Now I get you've got a problem with Elijah right now, but don't mistake my not forcing the information from you as sympathy."

"I wouldn't have a problem with Elijah if you weren't such an ass!"

"Now, now, if you had just told Elijah the truth instead of deceiving him."

"Stop trying to start arguments with me, I'm done talking to you!"

"Without you around to stop me who's to say I won't kill all the vampires in this town?"

"You're actually trying to threaten me again?"

"If you weren't so stubborn I wouldn't have to."

"If you weren't such a dick then I wouldn't be stubborn, but as you can see I do not like you and I have no wish to help you. Kill Marcel and his vampires, I will not help you."

"What about Elijah? He's a vampire too, isn't he?"

"He's also your brother, you wouldn't kill him."

"Maybe not, but I can ensure he spends the rest of his eternity in a box."

"Fine, I'll help you." I gave in, I wasn't going to risk Elijah for my grudge against Klaus. "Both of the Devereaux witches worked at a bar called Rousseau's. It's just a couple blocks from here."
