Evangeline POV:

The after party had proven to be more awkward than expected as I watched everyone being directed away from Davina to the point where she had just gotten up from her seat and walked away. However, that wasn't the most awkward part of the night as just a few moments later she emerged again with Klaus and Josh. Klaus' hand was firmly wrapped around the back of Josh's neck, but when they reached the grand staircase Klaus tossed him aside and went up the stairs to address the crowd.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Klaus spoke up to gain the attention of everyone else in the room, "may I have your attention, please? We are gathered here today to pay homage to our beloved witches, but one very special witch has been utterly ignored. That seems a little unfair to me."

Klaus came down the stairs towards Davina, taking a small box out of his hand. He held it out to her but Davina didn't look to pleased and I could understand why. "No, I don't want your gift."

"I understand why you would reject me given our past." I was a bit surprised that Klaus hadn't decided to decapitate her instead, it would have been more Klaus-like. Klaus withdrew his hand and placed the box back in his pocket. "In truth many of us here today have been wronged in the  conflict which my brother's treaty ended." I glanced over at Elijah who was stood next to me and I could tell he was a bit tense. "Your friend Josh," Klaus held his arm out towards Josh, "was involved in a plot to kill me. It would be well within my right to execute him, here and now."

I turned towards Elijah. "He can't be serious." I scoffed but Elijah didn't reply and that made me a bit worried.

"But," Klaus spoke up again, "in the spirit of solidarity and for your favor, Davina, I hereby pardon him." Klaus placed his hand on Josh's shoulder and looked him in the eyes. "Josh, from this day forward you have nothing to fear from me." Then he withdrew his hand from Josh and took out the box once more to offer it again. "Please." And this time, she took it.

After the scene Klaus had caused I had found myself excusing myself from Elijah to go and speak with him. Klaus was acting strange, being nice to people he would normally just kill, and being uncharacteristically generous. I found Klaus a few moments later talking to Hayley and was going to go over to both greet Hayley and get the answers I needed from Klaus but I was interrupted by the sound of drumming.

I turned to look at the staircase to find a group of men dressed in white carrying drums, with a glance in Elijah's direction I could tell he hadn't planned this. Nobody in the room seemed to have expected it but I found Klaus smiling as he sipped his bourbon in the back corner of the room. Maybe Klaus hadn't changed and this was his way of throwing a kink into Elijah's plans. I wasn't able to go over and question him about it any further because soon enough Elijah was stood next to me.

The group of men reached the bottoms of the stairs and the one in the middle spoke to the crowd. "Happy Fête des Bénédictions," he yelled, "we have a message for all of you from Marcel Gerard." Just like that the expressions of everyone in the room changed from surprised excitement into gasps of shock and for some, even fear as the men in white all drew pocket knives and made a cut down their wrist.

I saw some of the vampires in the room go into frenzy, their eyes red and veins swimming. "Evangeline, please leave the room, get Hayley and get out." I nodded, not bothering to argue as I found Hayley and the both of us left the room. In the next room, we listened in as Elijah talked to the vampires. "You will control yourselves," he told them and for their sake I prayed they would listen, "this is a vulgar trick, we do not violate our agreement."

The next thing I heard was screaming as the lights in the entire building were shut off and we were all engulfed in darkness. Hayley attempted to go back into the main room but I held her back shaking my head. "You have a baby to think about, if you go out their you'll be hurt." She nodded at my words and leaned up against the wall as we both listened to the sound of screaming coming from the other room.
