Chapter 45: Eruption

Third Person POV: 

The drive home had been completely silent. Klaus kept his eyes trained on the road ahead, his lips pressed together as he tried to contain his rage. Evangeline could see that something was bothering him and she didn't dare to speak, thinking it best to let him work out whatever was going on in his head.

When they arrived at the compound, Klaus quickly got out of the car and slammed the door so hard behind him that it left a dent. "Klaus!" Evangeline yelled at him. "What the hell is wrong with you?"

Klaus didn't reply and instead chose to go inside, ignoring Evangeline completely as he made his way into the compound. Evangeline quickly followed after him, scared he might hurt himself or someone else in his rage. "Klaus!" Evangeline called to him as he began to make his way upstairs. "Why are you ignoring me?"

Klaus stopped and Evangeline felt a weight lift off her shoulders, but as soon as he turned to look at her she felt the weight return. "I overheard your conversation with Damon"

"What?" Evangeline could feel her chest tighten, he had overheard her telling Damon that she nearly slept with Elijah. "Klaus you have to-"

"I don't have to do anything!" Klaus shouted, face red with anger. "You slept with him! We are far beyond the point of you telling me what to do!"

"Klaus just listen to me-"

"You slept with my brother!" Klaus interrupted her, he could feel anger bubbling up inside of him at the thought of Elijah's hands-on Evangeline, he felt disgusted by the thought. He couldn't even bring himself to look Evangeline in the eye. "I should have known something like this would happen."

Evangeline quickly shook her head. "I did not sleep with him, I almost slept with him."

"Is that supposed to make this better?" Klaus hissed, unable to control his anger the more he thought about Elijah being with Evangeline. "He's my brother, Evangeline, and right now all I can think of is his hands all over you. This whole time you have been keeping this from me, and worst of all, I believed you. I let myself believe that you were being honest."

Evangeline let out a scoff, if anyone should think of someone else's hands on someone it should be her. Klaus has gotten Hayley pregnant and had sex with Caroline in the woods behind her family's house. "I never lied to you, Klaus, I told you what I felt for Elijah and I'm telling you right now that something happened between Elijah and I. Which is more than you ever did."

"You didn't tell me anything! I overheard you telling Damon when you should have been telling me!" Klaus screamed, leaning back in his seat as he took a large sip of the alcohol in his hand. "You should have told me after the first time it happened."

Evangeline couldn't believe what he was saying, did he even remember what he had done to her? "Klaus you tried to compel me! I had no obligation to tell you, I'm not obligated to tell you anything. I don't even know why I'm trying to explain this to you, we aren't together anymore, you have no right to freak out about this."

"So I am forbidden from expressing my discontent about you sleeping with my brother, but you are allowed to hold a grudge about Caroline for months?" Klaus retorted and Evangeline rolled her eyes. "Quite the double standard."

She was seething now, Evangeline could practically feel the steam coming from her ears. "I did not have sex with Elijah, Klaus! You slept with Caroline!" She yelled, unable to keep her voice under control. "Besides I was not holding a grudge about Caroline, I was mad at you for trying to compel me! You have no right to be mad at me, Klaus, none. Elijah was right, I should have let him tell you."

"You should've, then I could have put that silver dagger back into his heart and ended this argument before it could even begin." Klaus' own voice was beginning to elevate in volume the more he thought about his brother. "Things would have gone back to normal, just as they did the last time."
