**Hey guys, I know I haven't really been updating recently, but I've been extremely busy as I have a lot to make up for in schoolwork due to how much I missed and failed last year. The teachers are really bearing down on me so I'll update when I can. Thanks!**

Evangeline POV:
I sat in the large parlor room, sipping from a glass of hundred year old bourbon I'd found stashed away in the wine cellar. Kol had yet to return from delivering Professor Shane to Rebekah and that bothered me more than words could say. He had yet to answer any of my calls which put me more on edge than I was already.
"He's fine, Angie." Katherine said to me for what was certainly the millionth time since Kol's departure two weeks ago. "I'm sure he's just caught a snag, he's an Original which means he cannot die-"
"Unless someone has the White Oak Stake!" I exclaimed, thinking back to who had the stake last. "Alaric was the last person seen with it, it could be anywhere and it's indestructible. Someone could be picking them off one at a time and what? I'm supposed to just sit here."
"Well you can't go back to Mystic Falls, you promised yourself you'd never go back there."
"If someone is doing that then I'll have no choice, if they can kill Original Vampires then they can kill my brothers."
"So I will go back, I will find out what has happened, and I will stop it."
"No! You can't go back there without Klaus killing you!"
"He's been after me for half a millennium, he's not going to catch me."
"He will if you go waltzing back there when the last time he saw you, you were plotting with Damon to kill him. You can't put yourself in that kind of danger, Kat, I won't let you."
"If it keeps you safe away from there then I have no choice, you are all I have on this earth and the least I can do to repay you for everything you've done for me is to make sure your brothers don't die."
"The only thing I did to protect you was go to New Orleans, that's not worth your life Katherine!"
"You spent thirty years in constant danger to protect me, it is worth my life."
"I wasn't in constant danger." I countered her statement. "For most of that time they did not know who I associated with, they only knew the minor details like my age and my last name. Even after they found it out, Elijah protected me by taking me with him when Mikael burned the city to the ground."
Katherine froze for a moment before a smile broke out on her face, the kind of smile she got when she had formulated a plan. "Elijah!" She exclaimed, ripping my phone from my grasp. "He's protected you for decades, if we call him and tell him he will help you."
"I can't ask that of him."
"It's his brother you suspect to be in danger, he's a family man. Just tell him what you think and wait, he won't be able to turn away from this."
"What if Kol is dead? Elijah will despise me for not contacting him sooner and there's no doubt he will kill us both."
"Did you not face this same dilemma with Klaus when he returned to break the hybrid curse? If he did not kill you then Elijah won't do it."
"It wasn't the same Kat. Klaus hated me because of you, it's Elijah's brother on the line right now."
"If you don't contact him he will hate you anyways, Angie, you have to do it!"
I shook my head, I couldn't do that. "If Kol is dead and my brothers killed him, then what? Elijah will kill them and I will have no family."
"There are risks we need to take to protect ourselves, remember the things I taught you Angie. You look out for yourself."
"I won't set my brothers up to be slaughtered just to save myself, I could never."
"Then make a deal with Elijah."
"Am I to exchange the fact my brothers kill his for the sole purpose of asking him not to kill them?"
"No, I have something better in mind."
"What is it?"
"The less you know the better, just get in touch with him."
"Tell me!"
"I have heard from one of my special friends in Mystic Falls that they're on a hunt for a cure that will remove a vampire's immortality. You need a member of the Brotherhood of the Five and a witch descended from the one who created the cure."
"So I'm supposed to suggest this and say what? 'Hey Elijah, wanna be human?'?"
"No. You need to tell him that if anyone else gets their hands on this cure then he and his entire family could be in danger, the first thing people will want to do is cure them and kill them. If we get the cure we can destroy it or do whatever we want with it, ensuring that we all remain safe from it's power."
"Or better yet, we exchange that cure for my brother's lives. But how are we supposed to get a member of this brotherhood and a witch descended from the one who created this?"
"That's easy, Jeremy Gilbert and Bonnie Bennett. Jeremy triggered the hunter's curse by killing a vampire to protect Elena-"
"Elena is dead."
"Right, you don't know."
"I don't know what?"
"When Rebekah drove Elena off that bridge she had Damon's blood in her system, she's a vampire. That's why they're looking for the cure, she doesn't want to be a vampire."
"Good, she shouldn't be a vampire. Now the plan is to call Elijah and tell him his brother might be dead, then tell him about the cure, make a deal to save Damon and Stefan, get the cure, and then destroy it? What if Damon and Stefan didn't kill Kol?"
"What if they did? There's no way to know until we make the deal, so you need to call him."
I took my phone from her hands and typed in the passcode, going directly to Elijah's contact and ignoring the missed calls I had gotten, they were all from Damon and Stefan anyways. The green phone taunted me for a few moments before I pressed it and put the phone against my ear. It rang not even once before the robot voice came on.
"The number you are trying to reach is disconnected or is not longer in service, if you have reached this message by accident please hang up and try again."
I hung up and glanced at Katherine to find she shared the look of horror on my face. How were we supposed to reach Elijah if his number didn't exist?
