Evangeline POV:

Klaus and Elijah returned to the compound some hours later, with Klaus coming in first. I did my absolute best to try not to look at him, avoiding his gaze to the best of my abilities from where I stood in the doorway of my bedroom, but his attention wasn't directed at me. It was directed at Marcel and his vampires who had amassed themselves in the courtyard.

He didn't look overly pleased as he looked back and forth, glaring at each and every vampire he laid his eyes on. "Is there a reason why you lot are loitering in my home?" He questioned, none too kindly.

"I asked them to be here." Marcel replied, pulling himself away from one of his other vampires who he had been engaged in conversation with for some time. "You and I need to settle this, out in the open."

Klaus turned around, a scowl on his face. "I thought you would have run off by now."

"Yeah, well," Marcel sighed, "this is my town. You may want me to beg forgiveness, but I'm not sorry. I may not be able to beat you, but I came here to face you. To end this in front of my people. If you're gonna kill me for that, get on with it."

I didn't think it was actually possible for Marcel to get any dumber, but apparently he was. Or maybe he wasn't because just when I thought Klaus would attack Marcel, he sighed and simply walked away. He and his vampires watched as Klaus walked past them and up the stairs. That's when Elijah entered.

In a blur of movement Marcel was listed into the air and thrown across the courtyard. As he groaned in pain, Elijah adjusted his suit and addressed the vampires in the room. "Good evening, I trust I need no introduction. After all this was once, my family home. Tonight, I'm taking it back." He announced and I just watched in amusement as he looked around at the vampires before his eyes landed back on Marcel. "Your privileges here have been revoked, Marcellus, out of respect for my sister I will grand you this one mercy," Elijah raised one finger and pointed it at Marcel, "I will allow you to keep your life, however, you are hereby exiled. If I so much as find a trace of you in the French Quarter it will not end well for you. Do you understand?" Marcel remained silent, without protest. That made Elijah smile. "That is all, run along."

The vampires who had crowded the courtyard since my arrival back here to the compound soon filed out and Klaus spoke up again. From his perch leaning on one of the railings. "Nicely done, brother." This made Elijah look up at him. "You're beginning to sound like me. I'm impressed." And then Klaus turned and retreated somewhere in the house.

"Evangeline, it isn't polite to eavesdrop." Elijah turned his attention to me, to be honest I didn't think he noticed me, apparently I was wrong. "Why don't you come down? I'd imagine you're feeling quite claustrophobic having been stuck inside all day."

I pursed my lips and took a few steps out of my bedroom and jumped up onto the railing. "Who says I've been here all day?" I grinned, doing my best to make myself seem normal. After my confrontation with Klaus I couldn't even think straight. "I went out, took a walk, made some new friends, the usual."

"Evangeline, please come down from the railing." I just laughed, lifting one of my feet up and holding it over the edge. "I see you're feeling defiant today, I'll let you have your rebellious moment."

I chuckled, jumping down from the railing to stand in front of him. "I got down, what's my reward?"

"Evangeline, have you been drinking?" Elijah narrowed his eyes at me and I pouted, most likely only proving his accusations correct. "You should go to sleep."

One corner of my lips twitched up briefly in a sad smile. "Can I talk to you about something?"

"Of course, what is it?"
