Evangeline POV:
With my bag in hand I made my way to the front door, taking a look back at the courtyard to find Klaus seated at a table with a bottle of liquor in his hand. "So you've decided to surrender yourself to.... alcohol poisoning now? Cause if that's the case allow me to remind you that you're immortal, even the alcohol can't kill you, or even make you drunk."
"You're hilarious." Klaus retorted, the sarcasm oozing right off of him as he turned to look at me. "But I'll have you know this is not my surrendering to alcohol poisoning as you so nicely put it, this is what emotional people like you would call a coping mechanism."
I raised an eyebrow. "And you're coping with what? Is your ego finally suffocating you from the inside out? Or maybe after a millennium of being a douchebag you are finally realizing you're a douchebag?"
"It would be a lot easier if you stopped speaking and got out of my house." He retorted and I was silenced. Looking him over a few times I could feel my resolve beginning to crumble so before it could completely collapse I turned away and left the compound.
Outside the front entrance I found Elijah's car and leaning on the hood was Elijah. "Do you have everything you wanted to bring?" He asked me, pressing a button on the key pod and the trunk popped open. I nodded as he took my bag, placing it carefully into the trunk before he shut it once more.
"You really don't have to drive me there, Elijah." I told him with a smile, I didn't want him to think he was obligated to. "I'm capable of taking myself."
Elijah simply smiled and opened up the passenger side door, gesturing for me to get in. "I know you are, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't take you." I knew he wouldn't concede to let me go on my own, so I climbed into the passenger seat and Elijah closed the door behind me.
As Elijah walked around to the driver's side, I looked back at the compound. I recalled the moment back at the plantation when Klaus had told me for what had to be one of few times, if not the first time, he had ever said the word 'love' in my presence. Recalling how I had felt in that moment, my heart ached. That was hardly four months ago, to think we had come this far.
"What are you thinking about?" Elijah questioned me and I was pulled from my thoughts as he started the car.
I glanced over at him and shook my head. "It's nothing, I'm just thinking about how I should spend my life now that I'll be alone in a hotel."
"I'm sure you'll find something dangerous to do in your free time." Elijah joked, eyes glancing over for a brief second to meet with mine. "But if you find yourself getting bored with making the rest of us worry, you're always welcome back at the compound."
-
"They just let you leave?" I could see that he was a bit shocked, not really believing what I had said. "No questions asked? Just a have fun see you later and no buts about it?"
We were sat in the lounge of the hotel's penthouse suite. He was sat in the chair across from the couch beside me as our conversation was lit by the large electric fireplace on the wall beside us.
I laughed quietly, finding his questions a bit amusing. "You know I didn't come here to listen to your mocking?"
"You didn't exactly go anywhere, now did you?" He laughed and I rolled my eyes. "So tell me, what exactly did you come here for? It isn't exactly an easy trip."
I smiled. "You know I'm sorry, right? For not helping you."
"Honestly, I hate to tell you this but if I couldn't do anything then you surely couldn't have." I knew that he was right but I couldn't help but blame myself for this. If I had tried harder I may have been able to do something. I could have helped him and I could have protected Katherine. "Don't blame yourself for it, you couldn't have changed anything."
