Elijah POV:

I looked down at Evangeline, her cheeks still splattered red from her tears. The times I had seen her breakdown were few and far between. She'd fallen asleep crying, because of him. Her tears were always for him. It hurt me to think I was the one who had allowed this to happen, I should have stopped it before it went this far. I should have stopped it there first time I saw her crying, but I did not.

Now here she slept, comfortably in her bed as I sat beside her. As I sat here I made myself a promise, I wouldn't let him make her cry again. He would regret all the tears she had shed, he would regret hurting her, he would realize what he had done to her and he would regret all of it. I would make sure of it.

"Klaus." I heard her mutter and it brought me from my thoughts, looking down at her face to see it scrunched up. She was dreaming, I wondered what it was about that would cause her to make a face like that but I didn't pry around in her head to find out. Instead I placed my hand to her forehead and soon she had calmed down, her muttering stopped and she was fast asleep again.

Evangeline POV:

I awoke from my sleep to find it still dark outside, I must not have slept long. As I examined the room I was in I recognized it as my own and spotted Elijah fast asleep in the chair across from my bed. I smiled at him, so he actually did sleep sometimes.

I checked the clock on my bedside table. 4:10am. As I made a move to get out of my bed I saw Elijah begin to wake up and soon he was fully awake and staring at me. Damn he was a light sleeper. "What are you doing awake already? For someone who thinks sleeping until one in the afternoon is okay, this is unexpected."

"I'm hungry." I made up an excuse but he saw through it almost immediately, giving me a pointed look. "Okay fine, I was just having a bad dream. Happy?"

Elijah stood from the chair and walked over to me, taking a seat on the bed beside me. "Do you wish to talk about it?" He asked me and I thought for a moment, contemplating whether or not I should tell him.

"It was Klaus." I answered honestly, nothing would come from keeping this buried within. It would only haunt me. "He compelled me."

Elijah looked at me seriously, studying my face before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small glass vile filled with a clear liquid. "I purchased this earlier today, it's vervain." He told me and I looked at the vile, waiting for him to explain. "I know you haven't been taking it and I want you to feel one hundred percent safe, you live with Original Vampires. Marcel and all his vampires take it, you're the only vampire left unprotected in this whole city."

"Elijah-"

He placed the vile on my bedside table. "It's your decision whether or not you want to take it, but I want you to know that you have the means to defend yourself and make your own decisions."

"Thank you, Elijah."

The sun shone through the curtains when I was once again awoken from my sleep. This time I was alone in the room and I figured Elijah was hard at work tracking down Rebekah and Klaus.

Hayley was in the kitchen munching on a bowl of cereal when I entered to grab a blood bag from the fridge. "Good morning." She greeted me with a smile which I returned, recalling how nice she had been to me before. "Elijah said he will be back soon, he just went to locate the witches."

"I figured that's what he would be doing." I replied, tearing the cap off the blood bag and pouring some of the contents into a mug. "I suppose he expects us to stay inside all day doing nothing?"
