Levi told himself he would be productive with his half-day off of school. And yet, instead of doing his psychology homework, he had spent the last two hours lying on his bed, trying to figure out how to word the message he wanted to send to Grayson. After spending the afternoon with Jaxon yesterday, he had decided that Matty was right and he should talk to Grayson like his blue-eyed boy had requested. Levi just couldn't help but think that he had been too harsh with Grayson this past week and the he wouldn't want to speak to the younger boy anymore.

Levi: Hi Gray, sorry about how I acted last week. I should've been there for you. Sorry. When you're ready I think we should talk. We can make this work

As Levi's thumb hovered over the send button, he was interrupted, his mother's face and name popped up onto his screen. It took him completely off-guard. After hesitating for a second, the guilt forced him to answer, and he picked up, placing the phone against his ear.

"Hi."

"Hello Levi."

Nearly 30 seconds of awkward silence followed, before his mother broke it.

"How has school been? Have you been working hard?"

Levi was greatly confused, "Y-yeah, I've just had exams. I think they went well."

"Good boy. You've always been so clever."

Levi could only hum in response, afraid of what he might say to his mum. How could she talk to him as if she hadn't rejected him when he came out to her? Another uncomfortable silence followed, proving to suffocate his mother once more as she attempted to adress their events of their last phone call.

"I.... I'm sorry Levi." She admitted, her voice breaking at the end. Levi himself began to choke up too.

"It was just such a s-shock, but.... you're my only son, and I love you so, so much. I always will."

The relief washed over Levi causing the tears to spill over onto his cheeks once more. This is all he ever wanted. And even though he was still slightly angry, she was his mum, and for so long it had just been the two of them, against the world. "I love you too mum. I miss you. So much."

"I miss you too baby." His mum agreed tearfully. Another few seconds of silence occurred as the two attempted to gather themselves and stop the tears.

"So, even though y-you're... will you still come to church with me at easter?"

Levi couldn't stop the bubble of laughter that forced its way out of his throat and he nodded. "Of course I'll come with you. That's if they let me in."

"I'll kick off if they don't. I've been going to that church for 8 years, it would be an outrage."

Levi spoke to his mum for another hour before they both hung up with the promise of a midweek visit. As he put the phone down, his screen reverted to his text chain with Grayson, and filled with confidence from the phone call with his mother, he hit send. He waited for a reply all night. A reply that never came.
