"There was a range of results achieved by you all, which is fine. I'm really happy with the fact that everyone has a grade D or above, so we shouldn't have a problem with your summer exams in June." Levi's biology teacher explained as she handed out their mock papers. In the top left hand corner his score and big green C was written, making him let out a breath in surprised relief. It wasn't his best score but he was just glad he had passed. He sneaked a glance over to Ameerah's paper which was given an A grade as he zoned out, not paying attention to his teacher. She caught him looking over and pursed her lips, feeling awkward and slightly guilty.
"I heard the rumours about....you know." She started, causing Levi to groan internally. He could not be arsed with this right now. Levi just hummed in response, as he looked through his paper.
"Are they true?"
"Yeah." Levi mumbled, focusing on his exam, unable to meet her gaze.
"Well, I just wanted to say that I did some research, and it turns out that I was wrong." She admitted, reluctance written all over her face. Levi's head snapped up to face her. He was very confused.
"What?"
"I know, I was as shocked as you. It hasn't happened before and it probably won't happen again." She said smiling slightly.
"But, new scientific evidence suggests that homosexuality has contributed to the survival of mankind. Some research suggests that it may be key in bonding within the species, therefore benefiting the wider group, others disagree with this, but my point is, that even though we don't have all the answers right now, it doesn't make science intolerant. So, I shouldn't have made such bold statements without doing enough research about it. My mistake. " She said, sending him a small smile. Levi's chest warmed and he grinned back at her, before it faded slightly.
"And what about Islam?"Levi asked, partially afraid of the answer. His question caught her off guard at first but she gave him a half smile and shook her head.
"Islam hasn't changed. The only person who has the right to judge is Allah. Islam isn't intolerant of gay people Levi. We all live in this world and not one human has the right to attack another. Over race, gender, sexuality or whatever. So ignore anyone who spreads hatred and spite in the name of religion. Because they're wrong. And Allah, God, Ik Onkar, or whatever higher power they think is out there does not preach hate; but love. Anybody who says different clearly doesn't understand scripture." Ameerah ranted in a hushed tone. Levi's smile picked up again and he nodded, showing he understood. He didn't know why but he suddenly felt a lot better. comfortable even. Perhaps his mum wouldn't take the news so badly then. The two sat in silence again before Levi a smirk spread on Levi's face in realisation.
"So what that you saying sorry then?"
"Shut the fuck up before I hit you Levi, this does not mean we are friends."
