insomnia- y.b

Nobody knew about my insomnia until me and my girlfriend (Yelena) started dating and she noticed that I hardly ever slept. In all honesty when I was younger it was a pain in my ass because I would constantly be tired at school and completely lose my focus and ended up with bad grades. However as I grew older I loved that I could stay up all night by myself and do whatever I wanted.

Granted it definitely has its downfalls like when I need to be focused in a meeting and I zone out constantly but other than the few cons it was nice.

I loved the sky as well and I mean everything about it. The way the sun would spread out colours like it was painting a fresh canvas every morning when it rose, or how it slowly took the colours away before disappearing.

I loved how when the clouds filled the sky my mind would spend hours making little images out of the clouds and the small debates I would have with Yelena about what the cloud was.

I loved knowing that even the sky has to let of steam sometimes and cry all its tears hence the rain and I loved how it screamed in a form of a storm.

I loved how the stars always shined no matter what peoples opinion on them was. I would often be found on the roof of the compound lying on my back just staring up at the sky taking it in with all it's beauty.

Turns out I needed glasses because I was short sited and since I've had them I realised just how many stars are in the sky and how much detail the moon had no matter what stage it was at.

Sometimes when my mind wouldn't shut of no mater what Yelena would take me on a walk until I felt tired enough to sleep.

She didn't always understand my slight obsession over the sky but she never judged in fact she claims that she loves how much I love the sky.

My insomnia got a lot better since Yelena found out because she told Bruce and he gave me some pills to take in the night to make me tired. I won't lie though sometimes I don't take them so I can have a little me time In the night but I do sleep eventually.

The rest of the team was also aware of my insomnia and helped when I needed it but this month has been really bad and nothing had been helping.

The pills no longer help because of how much I take them my body just ignores them telling my brain to shut up and sleep but I've been hiding it well or so I thought.

Everyday I 'wake' up at 4:30 in the morning and go and train until 5:30 which Is usually the time Nat and Steve come down and start their training. I then shower and make me and my girlfriend breakfast. I wake her up and we eat in bed and then start with our day.

It has been really frustrating how much energy my mind had even though every one of my limbs were begging for proper rest.

I hadn't noticed but dark bags were forming underneath my eyes like my body was shutting down slowly. I haven't slept in 3 days not a single hour which was driving me insane and Yelena picked up on this.

As I brought her breakfast we ate in silence until she questioned me.

"hey Y/n please be honest with me here, but have you started having trouble sleeping again?"

I was kinda thrown of guard by the question but decided enough was enough I had to tell the truth. I cleared my throat stalling a bit before speaking.

"in all honesty yes" her facial expression changed from curious to sympathetic.

"when was the last time you slept hun" I looked into her eyes as tears started to form in mine and quietly mumbled. "three days" she looked completely shocked. It was usually a day or two max never three and If I didn't sleep tonight it would be 4.

"why didn't you tell me?" even I didn't know the answer to this. " I just thought that it was a bad night then a bad two nights and then I didn't know how to tell you"

I looked down because I felt like I had let her down.

"are the pills not working" I shook my head.

She cupped my cheek with one hand and lifted my head up by my chin with the other. "I'm not mad at you if that's what your thinking. But we are going to get you to sleep today, okay?" I nodded and gave her soft smile back.

She kissed my head and we both got changed as we were going on a walk. The rest of the Avengers were all out on a mission.

We had a long walk along a close pier and got an ice cream on the way back. When we got home we decided to have a movie marathon.

We decided on the Maze Runner as it was one of my fav's. We got snacks drinks and blankets and then settled on the couch.

I was using Yelena's chest as a pillow and had my arms wrapped around her waist and her one arm was draped around me and the other was going up and down my back drawing different shapes and words on my back.

Halfway through the Scorch Trials she had realised my body had gone slightly limp and my breathe had evened out she looked down to see me fast asleep in her arms.

She grabbed her phone and checked the time knowing that the rest of the team would be home soon.

She text Nat.

Yelena:

Hey Nat can you and the others be as quiet as possible when coming home as just found out earlier today that y/n hasn't slept in 3 days and just managed to get her to sleep. I would move into our room as we are on the sofa at the moment but I don't want her to wake up.

Nat:

Yeah sure everyone is chill about it. Want to have a movie night with the team when we get in?

Yelena:

Sure as long as everyone is quiet

Everyone came home less than an hour later and Y/n was still fast asleep in Yelena's arms. They were all extremely quiet when they came home and set up the movie.

"how long has she been asleep for" Nat asked referring to y/n. "Just about an hour I want her to sleep for at least 6 but with her track record I think that might be pushing it"

"has she really not slept in 3 days" Steve asked. "yeah I only noticed because of the black bags under neath her eyes"

Everyone settled down and started to watch Mamma Mia because that's what Peter wanted. Tony started to mimic the dance on the screen making everyone laugh and y/n started to stir.

Everyone immediately went quiet and I started to play with her hair to send her back to sleep. She hummed in response to let me know she liked it and was back asleep in seconds.

We was on our third movie and y/n was still asleep in my arms she had stirred a few times but never actually woke up which relived me. She had also been asleep for 5 hours which was really good for her.

She woke up whilst we was watching Shrek but didn't move. She kissed my jawline a few times to let me know that she was awake and then listened to my heart beat and slowly drifted back off.

She had a really good sleep that night and I thanked the team for being so understanding about it all. We gor her higher medication and she was back to a good sleeping schedule.
