Chapter Four - no more emotions

Lillian POV

I stormed into my office, discreetly wiping my eyes as I let out a deep sigh trying to push away the burning feeling spreading within my chest.

That little girl had shaken me straight to my core, it was as if I had picked up my Bethany, just like I used to do all them years ago, except I couldn't do that anymore, my Bethany was gone.

I felt sick rising in my throat as I quickly grabbed a glass and poured myself a large drink and threw it down, the alcohol burning my throat as Hyde and Irene entered and I looked up, calming myself as my two closest advisors looked between themselves. Obviously having already spoken between themselves.

"The scouts are ready when you are my queen, I thought it best to give you a moment to prepare yourself" she said as I curtly nodded my head, my hands gripping the table ever so slightly as I felt the alcohol turn in my stomach.

"Let them in then" I said loudly, waving my hand as Irene nodded and I sat down into a nearby chair, holding my glass out to the side, Hyde quickly picking up on my cue. He gripped the bottle tightly as he poured me another and I shakily took a sip from my glass as two women walked into my study, bowing their heads as they entered.

"My Queen" they said, bowing as I nodded at them in acknowledgement, both visibly relaxing and standing upright as I took another sip, biting the inside of my cheek.

"We successfully entered the kingdom a couple weeks ago acting like normal traders as you instructed. Most of the village has been filled with those who lived around the surface of the kingdom, and it is surprisingly beginning to get on its feet again. A lot of the families that have moved in were offered the protection and support of the King, although to no surprise, not many are receiving it" one said as I tapped my hand on the desk taking in her words.

"Go on" I instructed as she cleared her throat as if she was somewhat hesitant to proceed, "We continued throughout the kingdom and after a couple of days got ourselves in with a maid in the castle, she needed two young girls to help here and therefore we took it upon ourselves to volunteer ourselves". She continued as I clenched my jaw, straightening my spine as I pushed myself forwards,

"We know this was against your direct orders, but by doing so we found out crucial information for you. And do not fear, we got in and out undetected, there was not a chance that any of them suspected us." she said as I narrowed my eyes and bit the inside of my cheek, my finger now rapidly tapping against the stone table.

"We hurried around the castle doing the jobs so as to not be noticed when we saw Brand leave his room, which caused quite a fuss in the castle. Apparently from the words of the other servants, he doesn't leave his room often, mainly to visit the dungeon and nothing else".

My heart twisted at the mention of Brand's name, and I scraped the long metal nail along the table and threw back the rest of my drink to ease my discomfort, "And what did you find out?" I said, calming myself as the other woman lifted her head, her eyes finally meeting mine.

"Do not fear me please" I said offering them a warm smile as my insides remained cold, "I will not harm you for what you tell me, I will never harm any of you" I promised as the other let out a little breath, wringing her hands together,

"We saw that there was a meeting going on with all of them, something that does not happen often. Evelyn resides in her chambers constantly and Damien is constantly travelling, so to have them all there in one room was something we could not pass up. We snuck outside like you taught us and listened." She stuttered slightly as I felt my eyes turn red and I blinked rapidly, calming down my rage,

"They have been looking for us, but so far Irene's spell has taken full effect removing us from their documents completely. They are currently at a loss at where we could be located and also too afraid to find us and face your wrath." she said as I smiled slightly at Irene who nodded her head ever so slightly as I turned back to my scouts, who looked uneasily between each other,
