His to Save

Chapter forty six - the dress

The carriage came to an abrupt half as I jumped in my chair, my grip on the seat the only thing keeping me in place. The rest of the ride had been uncomfortable to say the least. Damien and Brand had loosely chatted whilst I was ignored, however you could sense the small hum of tension in the air.

"Time to meet your people Lillian" Brand said smiling as I grimaced and the door was opened, Hyde stood there as he looked at me and shook his head, disgust written all over his features.

I narrowed my eyes at him as a warning as he extended his hand and guided me down, I shivered as the familiar chill of the north washed over me and I smiled. It was good to be home, even despite the circumstances.

Hyde offered me his jacket as I shook my head, Brand watching the interaction carefully, but I wasn't going to let him win. If I had to wear this monstrosity of this dress I was going to do it under my terms, not his.

I walked forwards my head high as we entered the bottom of the town, guards following me close behind. I walked through as the people began to exit their houses, and to my surprise, huge smiles appeared on their faces, and they rushed forwards.

"My Queen! Oh goodness we are so glad for your return! " a woman said as she kneeled deeply, and the children ran out to greet me. The laughed and giggled around me as they clutched my legs and I smiled widely,

Why was I so worried about what I was wearing when they didn't care? I knelt to face the children as they ran their fingers over the gems on the dress, gasping. An idea popped into my head as I quickly ripped one off the dress and wrapped my hands around it.

My power washed around it as it turned the gem into a hair clip and the little girls gasped. I gently pushed a hair clip into each girl's hair as I continued to take from the dress, the little girls faces lighting up and more began to crowd around me, their excited chatter warming my heart.

"Thank you so much your highness" the eldest said as the little girls ran around showing off their new accessories laughing,, "they haven't had anything that nice in their lives, we have missed you" she said bowing deeply as I smiled and lifted her chin,

"I've missed being home too" I whispered as she smiled and quickly hugged me before she ran off with the little girls, bundles of clips in their hands from where I had destroyed my dress. I stood up as I noticed tatters fall to the floor, the dress completely ruined.

I turned to face Brand my head held high as I noticed a small smile tug on the corners of Damien's lips, "what have you just done?" He growled as I shrugged, "You did say it was my dress, so I did what I wanted with it" I said grinning at him as I walked away through the town, my dress dragging through the mud, ruining it further.

My people continued to come out of their homes, bowing and greeting me as I felt a happiness spark in me again. Brand could try to control me, but he would never control the people here. These were my people, and they were loyal for a reason. I felt a warmth of love surround me as everyone continued to say hello and children ran around me, shiny gems reflecting in their hair or on their clothes.

We soon reached the castle as I turned to face back, people following us, waiting for an announcement.

I cleared my throat as I stepped forwards, but before I could say a word they all bowed, rows of people showing their respect for me as I felt my eyes prickle.

Brand crossed his arms next to me as I ignored him, "Please rise" I said as they stood up and look up at me, "I am so sorry for my sudden departure, I do hope everything has been well whilst I was gone. I had business to discuss in Ezerene and now I can continue the good work here in my kingdom, I will hold a party tonight please do come, and if there is an issue that need settling please do let me know" I said as Brand stepped forwards,

I turned to him as he narrowed his eyes at me, "What my mate is trying to say, is she can now, with me move forwards to uniting our kingdoms again" he said as the crowd stood still in silence, Brand growled as they refused to bow before him and I hid my smile, pride swelling in my chest.

"To the Queen in the North" a voice called out from within the crowd as my heart jumped and before long the entire group was shouting in my support. Brand turned away as he grabbed my wrist and led me into the castle, the gates shutting out the noise of the crowd.

Brand pulled me in front of Hyde and Damien as the doors shut, "What the fuck what that about Lillian" he hissed as his eyes grew black, but as he did I noticed my guards had come down and they quickly drew their swords, pointing it at Brand, he looked around confused as I pulled my arm out of his grasp.

"You will do well to realise whose kingdom you are in. You cannot treat me like this here, unless you want to end up in a similar situation like my sister, locked away in the deepest part of my castle. You have no power here" I whispered lowly as my eyes flashed. "Don't you ever speak to my people like that again, you are a guest here, and as for your little bargain with Bethany, don't forget your part of the deal. I got you the amulet you give me her body." I said as his eyes widened slightly,

"You have no idea what I'm capable of or what you've just stepped into" I said confidently as I stepped back, "now if you don't mind, I'm going to change into something more suitable. Hyde will show you to your room" I said as I turned and walked away, my guards surrounding me as I finally let out a deep shaky breath.

Brand growled behind me as I continued head held high, Damien walking away from me as I turned. He turned back to look at me as he let out a small smile, "Well done glow stick" he whispered in my mind as I smiled and walked into my castle.

Gods it was good to be home.
