I ran my hands through my hair as Cyrene fixed her backpack and slid her knife into the sheath on her thigh,

"Okay here my rules, if anything starts to go wrong, you portal straight back here, no exceptions, okay? We come straight back, I'm not risking our lives, more importantly your life, over something this fucking prick wants, he's not worth it" she said as I shook my head smiling at her.

"Nothing is going to go wrong, we are going to get that thing and we are going to go home, both of us in one piece." I said as she sighed, "Just promise me Lillian, I know exactly what your like, chaos and destruction seems to follow you around like a lost puppy" she said firmly as I gripped her hands in mine, chuckling lightly.

"Nothing will go wrong Cyrene. As I said, we will both be home before you know it. I will make sure we just go in grab it and leave" I said final as she smiled, gripping my hand tight.

"Good, now I don't know what this places looks like exactly but hopefully we will know it when we see it." Cyrene said as I smiled nodding,

"And hopefully I can get us there in one piece" I replied as she nodded gripping my hands,

I took a deep breath as I let the power rush through my veins and wrap around my hands. The red tendrils snaked over the map, consuming it entirely as a bead of sweat trickled down my back and I grit my teeth,

As I concentrated I felt a cool feeling rush run through me as Cyrene began to mutter quietly her power flowing around our hands and mixing with mine, giving me further strength.

I felt my stomach grow queasy as the world around us began to shift, warping together and we were suddenly whisked away through a tunnel of light and dark and spat out, both of us rolling onto the ground coughing as my stomach continued to flip.

I knelt on all fours as I shook my head, the dizziness easing as I got up and walked over to Cyrene, wrapping my arms around her and guiding her to her feet. I felt a small trickle of blood run across my lips as I wiped my nose, swiping it on my leg.

"You good?" I asked as she nodded and wiped her head with her hand, "I'm good, don't worry about me, just a little out of practice" she replied as I walked up to the large stone covering the cave,

"This must be the entrance" I said as she nodded walking up to it with me, her hands still shaking slightly, "I can feel power from out here, can you?" she said as I nodded hovering my hand over the stone, she was right. There was a slight metallic taste in my mouth from the hum of energy that surrounded this place,

"Be prepared for anything" I said as I lifted both my hands and closed my eyes placing them both on the stone, immediately magic rushed through my body as I gasped aloud and felt my power pulse throughout me. Within an instant I felt a pull and hurtled into the cave, Cyrene yelling my name as I was flung once again into the darkness,

I coughed clutching my side as I lifted my head turning back around,

"Cyrene! Cyrene can you hear me!" I yelled as I banged my hands against the now hard stone again and again,

I lifted my hand shooting out power as it instantly rebounded back, giving me a small second to roll to the side, avoiding it hitting me in the face.

I flicked my head up as I took a deep breath and held out my hand, power illuminating the small cavern, "Fine. Guess I'm on my own. As per usual." I sighed as I tentatively walked forwards.

I continued until I reached a small room, illuminated by a small floating blue light.

I quietly stalked forwards as I stood under the archway and a small shiver ran down my spine as my stomach twisted.

That was no ordinary lamp, the sheer sight of it made bile rise in the back of my throat and my palms begin to sweat.

I knew immediately who had made it, she used to make them for me and Bethany all the time when we were little.

I bit my lip as I walked up to it running my hand over it, "Oh good gods, what have you done now mother" I whispered as I willed down all the emotions trying to rush out of me.

I turned away from the light as I saw a small box in the middle of the room and I walked towards it as I felt the hum of power grow stronger, making every single one of my hairs stand on end.

I silently pulled out my dagger from behind my back as I looked around the room surveying the scene. This was all too familiar to me, and I wasn't afraid to admit it was setting me on edge.

Something didn't feel right.

She always told me to be aware of my surroundings before I took a chance, and if I knew anything about my mother, this wasn't going to be easy. This would be a test, just like it always was. She wouldn't just give it to me, she was going to make work for it.

Everything she ever did for us had been a test, there was never a moment of peace. Almost as if she had trained us for these specific moments, something she clearly didn't care to share.

I took a careful step around the box as I looked around, checking out the exits. There was three clear ones, two doorways leading who knows where and the way I came, which I knew has no way out, not without what I came here for.

I took a deep breath as I prepared myself and walked up a small set of stairs towards the box. As I took the final step up I felt a gush of wind wrap around me and a figure slowly rose from behind the box. I grit my teeth as I wrapped my fingers around my dagger and I lifted it, a cold chill running down my spine.

"Step into the light" I ordered as I lifted the dagger beckoning them forwards, the figure nodding slightly as they moved closer,

"Hello Lillian, I knew that you would eventually end up here" the voice said as I felt my breath catch in my throat and my blood freeze.

There was no way.

"Mother?" I gasped as the figure entered the light and smiled at me, "Welcome my dear, it's about time you knew the truth" she said as I gripped my knife tighter.
