Chapter Sixty - Snap

Damien pov

I watched eyes wide as I felt the connection between us grow fuzzy, raw magic seeping down the bond as I felt my eyes grow wide.

Lillian lifted off the floor, chanting in some unknown language which sounds like complete gibberish, her entire body covering in power.

The glow she was emitting was bright enough to almost make me turn away, but I refused to take my eyes off her, the fear of losing her weighing me down,

Her arms were outstretched as the magic began to flow faster around her, snaking up and down her, as if it was a being of its own,

Brand and Serene watched her, as they took a step back Lillian's chanting became louder,

I watched as she lifted higher and higher into the air, her eyes completely lit up, as if the magic inside her had become another being, taking her over completely,

Before I could blink she had slammed herself onto her knees, her hands pushing against the ground, the entire clearing shaking with magic,

Red power washed over all of us as everyone braced themselves, the world shaking underneath our feet.

I closed my eyes as dust washed over me, the ground beneath me shaking with power, as if it had come alive,

Lillian's hands were still on the ground, her chants echoing throughout the area.

The red snaked up the wall and across the floor as Brand and Selene scuttled backwards, away from the veins of deep scarlet rushing through the sandy earth,

The ground began to crack in front of Lillian as the soldiers around me moved uneasily,

I gasped as I felt a change in the air and before anyone could move, the ground began to fall apart,

Chunks fell in front of Lillian, a crater appearing.

The cracks ran alongside me as the earth shifted, but Lillian didn't stop,

Her chanting was loud over the panic as she continued to push herself, magic flowing out of every part of her body,

"LILLIAN!" I called out as she didn't respond, the magic just continued to grow, brighter and more powerful.

"STOP!" I called out as Selene rushed to me and grabbed me around the neck,

"Another word and I will feed you to the beast first" she hissed as I gasped against her grasp,

"She will not stop until the earth has opened to the core, where the dragon has been hibernating" she said as she pulled me back, away from the falling earth, the cracks widening as Lillian continued,

"She will die Selene, she can't keep this up, SHES ONLY A FUCKING HUMAN, SHE CANNOT SURVIVE THIS YOUR KILLING HER" I screamed as she kept pulling me back,

"She's no fucking human Damien, and you know better than most, you've tasted her blood, you know what she is" she hissed as I scrambled desperately, what the fuck was she going on about?

Lillian wasn't human, who the fuck was her father?

The ground continued to move under me as I felt fear settle in, she wasn't going to survive this, there was no way.

The chanting began to horrify me as I watched the floor crumble around her, the chasms dropping further than I could have ever imagined,

Steam began to rise, covering the area as the smell of sulphur engulfed the air and I felt my eyes sting and my throat grow dry,

Lillian stopped chanting as the red magic died out, and her body slumped to the side, laying on the floor unmoving, silence quickly filling the area.
