We just drove past the New Jersey sign saying we entered the state. I was staring outside the window and I swear that I recognized these roads, I just couldn't put my finger on it.
"We're here," Nat says as we pull up to an old gate. We all got out of the truck and approached the gate and I finally realised where we were.
"This is it," Steve says, also recognizing the place.
"The file came from these coordinates," Nat says. I see the sign that says 'Camp Lehigh' knowing this was where Project Rebirth's training was.
"So did I," Steve says. We all climbed the fence, going on the other side as we started to walk through the place. "This camp was where I was trained."
"Change much?" Nat asks as she uses a device to try and find what we are here for.
"A little," Steve says as we approach a building.
"This is a dead end. Zero heat signatures, zero waves, not even radio," Nat says.
"Whoever wrote the file must have used a router to throw people off," I say, and I notice Steve staring off in the distance. "What is it?"
"That building wasn't there before," Steve says and we all follow him to the building. "Army regulations forbid storing munitions within 500 yards of the barracks. This building is in the wrong place." Steve used his shield to break the lock open and we entered the building.
We walk down a set of stairs and Steve turns on the lights. They flicker on, revealing an old room that looks like it hasn't been used in decades. "This is SHIELD," I say as I see the huge logo at the other side of the room.
"Maybe where it started," Steve says. We go into another room and we see three pictures hung up, two guys and one girl. Howard Stark, Peggy Carter and Colonel Phillips.
"And there's Stark's father," Nat says, noticing the picture of Howard. "Who's the girl?" Nat asks and Steve walks away.
"An old friend," I say, making her nod as we follow Steve. We continue to look through the room and I see Steve stop at an open bookshelf.
"If you're already working in a secret office," Steve says, and somehow opens it to reveal an elevator. "Why do you need to hide the elevator?" We go up to the elevator and Nat uses a device to find out the code, opening the elevator.
We entered the elevator and I got the chills from how sketchy this place is. We go down without pushing any buttons and the elevator doors open to a dark room.
Us three step out slowly and cautiously as the lights flicker on revealing what looked like a really old computer. "This can't be the data point. This technology is ancient," Nat scoffs as she approaches the computer. Nat notices something to be able to put the flash drive in and she does carefully.
Everything around us started up, whirring and clicking were all you could hear. "Initiate system?" the cracky computer says as a screen shows us the typing in green lettering.
Nat goes up to the computer and types 'yes' while saying, "Y-E-S spells yes." She enters that into the computer and it starts to power up. "Shall we play a game?" Nat smirks and turns to us. "It's from a movie that was really-"
"I know," Steve says, shutting her down. "We saw it." I gave her a quick smile as she raised an eyebrow at me. The computer in front of us starts to glitch and beep, revealing a disoriented face that seemed somewhat familiar.
A camera was above the computer pointed at Steve and said, "Rogers, Steven, born 1918." I heard that voice before, I know it. The camera then moves to me and says, "L/n, Y/n, born 1919." Then the camera moves to Nat and says, "Romanoff, Natalia Alianovna, born 1984." Natalia?
