After driving Jamina to school, Olivia headed to the hospital for her first check-up since the accident. She also was having her first OBGYN appointment for updates on the baby. Spencer told her he had a few errands to run but would meet her for the appointment afterwards, but that was over an hour ago. She pulled out her phone to shoot him one more text looking at the clock above her head. Where the hell is he? Her palms were sweaty as she rubbed them together sitting with her legs crossed and arms folded. She wasn't sure what that was an few nights ago, but whatever it was, she couldn't stop thinking about it, or him. Was this an good thing? Bad thing? All in her head, would she remember this feeling once her memory caught up to everything else they once had? She didn't know but all she knew right now was that she had an tinge of excitement on seeing him today, she just hoped he wouldn't bail at the last minute. Her eyes continued to search the room for his arrival, but still nothing. 8:58am. Just then her name was called.
"Olivia Baker?" She stood up following the nurse assistant to the back. She had her stand on the scale to record her weight and height before going to the room. Olivia sat her purse aside as she hopped on the operating table, laying back as the assistant took her blood pressure and temperature.
"Okay, everything looks pretty normal which is good, now just wait here, Dr. Reynard will be with you in a few moments, alright?"
"Okay, thank you" Olivia said to the nurse as she walked out of the room leaving Olivia to herself. Few moments later, Dr. Reynard came, with Spencer right behind her.
"Hi Olivia, it's good to see you again, I ran into Spencer on my way to the room, so I thought I'd bring him back here with me, is that okay?"
Olivia's eyes met his for a brief moment as his face showed an apologetic smile for being late. He mouthed, sorry I'm late.
"Yeah, it's fine, he's just running late anyway, he's supposed to be here"
The parents smiled at each other as she waved her hand so he could come a little closer. He sat in the chair to the side of her as she laid back more, lifting her legs up, resting her arms on her stomach. Dr. Reynard pulled out a few things from the drawers and threw on some gloves turning on the machine preparing for the ultrasound.
"Okay lady so this is what we're going to do, I'm going to take a look at the growth, make sure there's nothing abnormal happening or anything of concern, then we'll do the ultrasound and I'll take some pictures and from there we should be able to see how many weeks you are now, okay?"
Olivia nods with her eyes turning to Spencer. He returns it with a small smile back taking her hand in his. Dr. Reynard flipped on the machine lifting Olivia's shirt pouring a dollop of the jelly. Olivia shivered a little at the feeling of the jelly on her stomach. She takes the wand and starts moving it in circles, side to side, up, and down getting a feel until the baby appears on the screen.
"Okay, everything looks normal on my end, nothing abnormal happening with the fetus, now were gonna take a closer look"
Dr. R tells the parents as she types a few things on the machine then does three clicks in a row, zooming in so they could see clearer on the screen. Dr. R moved the wand around her abdomen below her center, going left to right again then stopping in the middle.
"Fetus is as big as a plum, which would make you, about 12 weeks now. Since you've only been discharged from the hospital for two weeks now, that made you ten weeks when I first told you"
Olivia was surprised and stunned all in one as Spencer chuckled to himself. Wow, three months, how did we miss that? This is crazy, good kind tho, I think.
"So, I'm further then I thought then, aren't I?" Olivia chimed.
"Yes, you are, but this is a great thing, it means the baby is growing like it should"
