chapter 42

April 20th, 2041

JADEN'S P.O.V.

"Josie, you ready?!"
"I'm coming!"

I heard Lexi and Josie yell through the house, before Josie started running down the stairs.

"Babe, what's up? Where are you two going?"
"To new therapist, like I told you."
"Uh, you didn't?" I asked, rather than stated, as I looked at Lexi.

"Wait I didn't?"
"No. You didn't."
"What the hell, who was I talking to then? I could swear I told you."
"I don't think you did. And I'm pretty sure I'd remember it. But it's okay though. Why new therapist?" I asked as she sat on a sofa beside me.

"Because last one knows everything about your death. And then she wouldn't be able to open up about everything."
"Oh. Is this one good though?"
"Well, he was one of my first therapists. Also first person I came out to. So since he is for kids, I thought about taking her to him when I found out he is still working."
"Oh, okay."
"Are we going momma?" Josie asked as she walked in living room.

She was wearing big sweats and big hoodie, that I think was mine five years ago.

"Yeah."
"Okay. We will be home in few hours."
"Okay."

Josie hugged me, before Lexi pecked my lips and they left the house.

I kinda wish I would've gone with them. I haven't really been going out of the house. Maybe like twice. And I always wondered how it works with kids because I went to therapist who was my somewhat aunt or whatever so I never had my parents be there with me for that first talk.

"Dad?"
"Already back?" I smiled at her, making her smile.

"Yeah, for you. Would you like to go with me and momma?"
"You want me to go?"
"Yeah. You've been the person that I've always been most opened up to, even though you don't know it. So I kinda want you there for the first time with new one."
"Okay. Of course I wanna go with you." I smiled as I got up and walked over to her.

We walked out of house and sat in the car. Lexi was driving, and I hate being in passengers seat, but whatever. I wouldn't even know where to go anyway.

"I'm anxious."
"Don't be. There's no reason for that. Also, I don't want you feeling pressed into staying with him for therapy. If you don't feel comfortable, we'll find a new one. Doesn't matter that I was his patient in past, okay? Just because I liked him doesn't mean you will."
"I know that."

I loved the way Lexi talked to Josie. She was full of understanding and so calm when it comes to Josie's mental health. And I adore it.

"Can we get ice cream?"
"I don't think we have time."
"We do momma, we literally started the ride too early."
"Okay then," Lexi pulled over on the little parking before grabbing her wallet, "Chocolate and raspberry?"
"Yeah."
"Jae?"
"Oh, I don't want ice cream."
"Why?"
"I just don't feel like it."
"You sure?" She questioned again and she opened the doors.
"Yeah."
"M'kay." She closed the doors and walked away, leaving Josie and me alone.

"Dad?"
"Mhmm?"
"Are you going to start therapy?"
"Huh?"
"Well, knowing you have PTSD and all that you went through, I personally think you should talk to someone. Someone that isn't part of your family."
"You are too smart and mature for your years."
"Oh." She looked down at her hands.

"No, no, baby, I meant in a good way. You are a really comforting person."
"Am I?" Her face lit up and she leaned closer to me.
"Yeah, you are."

She kissed my cheek just as Lexi walked back to the car.

"There you go."
"Thank you mommy."

We rode as we listened to the radio, mostly being in comfortable silence.

Once we finally arrived we got out of the car and started making our way to the building.

Josie was quick to interwine her hand in mine, holding it tight as we walked.

It got me shocked for a bit, as I thought 12 year old girl wouldn't want to hold her dad's hand in public. I smiled as I kissed her hand, making her look at me.

"It's okay baby. You don't need to be scared. Momma and I are here and we'll make sure you're not uncomfortable. If you feel uncomfortable around him, just give me a sign, yeah?"
"Okay."

I opened the doors, Josie's hand separating from mine as she walked inside with Lexi following behind.

I closed the doors and Josie intertwined our hands again as we walked up to the counter.

Lexi told the woman all the information she needed before she told us to sit and wait for a little.

Josie's legs started bouncing as we sat down, making Lexi place her hand on Josie's thigh.
