chapter 9

February 17th, 2041

3RD PERSON

"But, Lexi, you were right. That was not Jaden's body. Turns out that the person is some guy that went missing six years ago."
"What?!"

Her heart rate speeded up, making her feel like her heart will jump out of her chest.

No fucking way.

"You're fucking with me, Clark, and it's not funny. Not at all."
"I'm not joking. I would never joke about this. I got results yesterday, but I heard your kid went missing so I didn't want to create more problems for you. But not I heard you found her, so I called."
"What. the. fuck."

In that moment, Lexi fell on the floor, her phone dropping on the tiles, making it turn off.

A loud thump was heard in Michael's room, where he was currently peeing.

He quickly rushed out to Lexi's bedroom, knocking on the doors or bathroom. Once he didn't get the answer, he opened the doors to see his mom laying on the floor, looking as if she was dead.

Puls. The word came through his mind and he was quick to check her pulse. She was still alive.

He immediately screamed for Josie and Mason to come there, so they both rushed up the stairs.

"Mom!"

They both screamed when they saw the scene in the bathroom.

"She's alive. Go and call uncle Bryce immediately. I don't know what happened."

Josie rushed out of the room, while Mason helped Michael to get Lexi in her bed.

"What happened?!"
In few minutes, Bryce rushed in the house, seeing Lexi passed out in her bed while Mason was cleaning a little blood from her forehead.

"I don't know, I just heard a loud sound while I was peeing and I rushed here to see what happened and she was passed out on the bathroom floor."
"Bry, we should call ambulance."
"I think she was overwhelmed and she also didn't sleep the whole night. Let me check her pulse."

"It's fine. Maybe we should wait a little and see."

Just then, Lexi woke up.

"What are y'all staring at?"

She asked confused, as she thought in her head she was just sleeping and dreaming the whole situation with Josie and then call from Clark.

"Mom, you passed out in the bathroom. Don't you remember?"
"Fuck, So I didn't dream all that?"
"All what?"
"Josie running away and- all that."

She quickly stopped herself from saying she got a call from Clark, because Bryce would somehow find out about Jaden.

"No."
"Fuck. I need to go somewhere."
She jumped up from the bed, but all of them were quick to stop her.

"Lay down. You need to get some sleep. You aren't allowed to go anywhere."
"You are acting as if I'm not your mom."
"No. They're right. You need to get some sleep."
"But I have some urgent things to get done."
"No. Lay down and sleep."

She tried pretending to be asleep before they all left the room, but ended up actually falling asleep.

She woke up at 1 pm, after almost 5 hours of sleep.

She quickly showered, and then realized she has a stitch on her forehead.

Once she was dressed up, she turned on her phone and walked down the stairs with her backpack.

Michael was making food while Josie was making him company and Mason was doing something on a laptop on kitchen island.

"Kids, I need to go somewhere. It's really important. I want you to stay home until I'm back, alright?"
"Ma', you need to eat food first."
"Okay. I actually will wait to eat."

She said once she felt her tummy make a sound at the mention of food.

"So, um, now that you know about Ash and I, is she allowed to come around?" Josie asked while playing with her fingers nervously.
"Yes. Of course. But nothing sexual involved. Okay?"
"Okay. Can she come over today?"
"Yeah. Okay, I have something to do now, so I'm leaving you guys alone here again, if you're going to invite someone it's okay while it's not too many people and while everything is under control. Okay?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, bye guys."

Lexi sat in her car, driving through the gates to Clark's office.

Like some maniac, she looked around thinking she'd see Jaden walking on a street even though she knew it wasn't possible.

"Hello."
"Hello."

Lexi passed the security at the doors and then made her way up to Clark's office.

Knocking before entering, she saw Clark was doing something on his computer.

"Lexi, finally. What happened, why did you hung up like that?"
"I fell unconscious. Nothing important. Let me see those papers."
"Here."

She read the papers, and it actually said that DNA belongs to some Italian guy, and not Jaden.

"Now, how did you come in conclusion that Jaden is alive?"
"I got this email, look. And then I came here."

Lexi found the video and showed him, making his eyes widen.

"What. the. fuck."
"That's what I fucking said. What are we gonna do now? How are we going to find him?"

Lexi started rumbling while pacing around the room.

"Jesus fucking Christ I never thought I'd actually experience this shit. Someone just faked someone's death. What the actual fuck?"
"We need to find him. Right now. Like, right now. I don't care what it takes."
"Who do we call first?"
"Call Bryce. Call him- Wait! Don't! They can't now. They called me crazy for years, I'm gonna prove to them I'm not that crazy."
"But we need someone's help. We can't make this alone."
"We will make it alone. Your checks will be so big if you help me, I promise. Just help me."
"I don't care about the money, let's just get our Jaden back. Whoever did this will be punished the way they should."

Lexi and Clark paced around the room, both of them panicking while talking.

He's alive. But will he be alive when they manage to find him? That's the real question.
