chapter 14

March 20th, 2041

LEXI'S P.O.V.

"What the fuck?"
"Are you fucking with me? That fucking bitch!"
"Well, I mean, he did kill her dad."
"No, it goes deeper. She's his kind of ex. They were hooking up before we met."
"Shit. Dude she really needs to see a psychiatrist."
"Let's go."

I got up, grabbing all of my stuff before Clark stopped me.

"We can't go alone, Lex. It's dangerous."
"So?! He's there alone for years!"
"And your kids?"
"Clark, don't bring them up into this."
"Lexi you gotta sit down and think straight. Do you know how dangerous it is?"
"I do not care."

"Let's call Bryce."
"Bryce?! Hell no. I don't want him in this."
"Why?"
"Why I didn't want him to know this whole time? Because I'm gonna prove I'm not that crazy to him, and to everyone else."
"Nick then."
"No."
"Lex, we need their help. Just tell Nick not to tell anyone."

I dialed Nick's number while biting my nails. Clark pulled away my hand, so I would stop biting them, but I just did it again. This time my leg started bouncing too.

"Hey Nick. I need your help."
"What happened?"
"I need you to come to Clark's office. You know where is it?"
"Yeah. I'll be there soon."

We waited for Nick a little bit over an hour, but then he finally arrived.

"Hey guys, what up?"
"Hey."
"Hi."

I stood up and hugged him for few seconds, before pulling away.

They shook hands before we all sat back in our chairs.

"So, what's wrong?"
"Nick, we need your help."
Clark started, setting his elbows on the desk.
"For?"
"Jaden's alive."
"Lex-"

Nick shook his head, sigh leaving his mouth, but I was quick to explain myself, so I interrupted him.

"I'm not crazy. Just listen to us for a moment."
"Okay. I'm listening."
"Month ago, I received an email. That's when I made Clark do the biopsy of Jaden's body again. Turns out it's not Jaden." His eyes widened, but he didn't say anything and let me finish, "Today I received another email. We found a guy who's been sending me them. Turns out he is part of Lewis' mafia. These are the emails."

I showed him everything. He was clearly in disbelief. His eyes were opened wide.

Ha. That's what you get for calling me crazy. - the voice in my head laughed.

Maybe I am mentally ill, but I'm not 'crazy'.

"What the fuck?"
"Mhmm."
"This- Dude what the fuck. I cannot believe it. So what's the plan?"
"I don't know, but all I know is that I do not want Bryce's help, nor anyone else to know about this. Only people included in the mission."
"Okay then, let's make the plan."

I parked car in the garage, before going inside of the house. It's around 7 pm, so I brought food for dinner. I need to make it up to them somehow. But even this is not fine. Only bringing Jaden home would make them forgive me for the time I wasn't with them.

"Hey chickies, I bought food for dinner."
"I'm not hungry."

Michael was quick to just walk past me and go up the stairs.

Josie and Mason were just sitting there and looking up at me from their phones.

"Yeeah, I'm not really hungry either."

Josie got off the stool and tried to walk past me, but I grabbed her upper arm not letting her go.

"Michael get back downstairs right now!"

When I didn't hear anything, I let Josie's arm and walked up the stairs to his room.

"I told you to get back downstairs."
I said bursting through his doors.

"I'm busy right now, mom."
Mom. Ouch.

No matter how mad he is, he should not talk like this to me.

"I don't care. If I said to go back downstairs, then go the fuck downstairs."
"Oh, so now you care so much where we are?"
"Just go downstairs."

He rolled his eyes and got up, storming off to kitchen with me following behind.

"Listen. I understand why you are mad at me and you have every right. I know that I neglected you last month, but I am working on something, which is for all of us. I know I wasn't home as much, and I would just disappear without saying a word, but I really was doing something important. Important for life."
"Mhm and what were you doing?"
Michael scoffed, crossing his arms over his torso.
"I can't tell you yet."

He chuckled, shaking his head.

"You see, it's not just neglecting us. When did we all start keeping things away from each other?"
"You guys will see in a week hopefully. It's something for all of us. I promise I would never just leave you guys for something that isn't that important."
"Yeah, whatever. I'm going upstairs."

Michael stormed pass me, Josie followed right after. I felt Mason's gaze on me as he slided off the stool.

"I'm sorry mom. But I think the only way for you to make up your acts the last month is to bring dad back home which is impossible. So,"
"M please."

I held his hand as he looked back at me.

He sighed, turning around and hugging me.

"I can forgive you, but that something better be something really good. But I don't know about them two. Just give them a little space maybe?"
"Can you please talk to them? I promise you once I finish on what I've been working on, it will make it up to all three of you."
"I'll try to."

I kissed his head as few tears slipped my eyes.

"Can you please grab this food and bring it up to them in their rooms?"
"Okay. What are you eating?"
"Jus- just bring all of that upstairs. I'll eat later."
"Mom c'mon-"
"M, I'll eat later."

He sighed and kissed my cheek before going up the stairs.

He was always more like me, he never had a heart to be mad for a long time at the person he loves. Michael and Josie on the other side, they are maybe more like Jaden. While they are mad, they are mad, once they decide not to be mad anymore they just come around and pretend like nothing happened.

I sighed and went to the yard with Lee. He ran around while I sat on the big swing we have in yard.

I just pray we find Jaden and he is safe home by the end of the month.
