The sun was high but it was hiding behind the clouds. The air was cool but not too cold for her to shiver. The singing of the birds could be heard from the trees. The meadow before her was full of colorful flowers, some of them she never saw before, and she could smell the sweet scent coming out of them. Bees and butterflies hopped from one petal to another, satisfying themselves with the sweetness of the florals. It was a beautiful day.
She walked by a small path, not knowing where it would lead her. She was fascinated with her surroundings, smiling at everything that she could see.
"Lianna.."
She stopped in her tracks when she heard her name. That voice. She knew that voice like the back of her hand.
"Lianna.."
She heard it again and this time, she turned to face the direction from where it was coming from.
The woman in front of her gave her the sweetest smile. It was the face that she loved all her life. It was her voice that calmed her when she was rattled and in distress. The next thing she knew, her feet scrambled and raced to where the woman was. She was welcomed with open arms that enveloped her into a warm hug. Her scent was the way she remembered it to be.
"Mama.."
"Hi, sweetheart..."
Sweetheart. Her mother would always call her that.
She pulled away, her arms still around her, but she wanted to look at the beautiful face that she adored ever since she was a little girl.
"It's really you, Ma..."
Her mother smiled. "It is me.." She felt her warm fingers tucking her loose hair away from her face.
"But how... why... what..." her mind had a lot of questions.
The old woman smiled and took her hand. "Come, sweetheart, let's go for a walk."
They walked across the meadow, hand in hand, just like how they were when she was little. Lia still couldn't believe that she was holding her mother's hand. They stopped by a big tree and she found a picnic set-up under the shade.
Just like the old times, she thought.
Amelia gently pulled her to take a seat and opened the basket for her. It was a feast right before her eyes. Her favorite chicken sandwich, chocolate cupcakes, strawberry shortcakes, cookies, and pink lemonade. Everything was delectable and she knew that her mother made all of it for her.
"Huwag mong titigan, anak. Dig in! I know you're hungry."
She giggled and obeyed her. She took a bite of the sandwich and as soon as it touched her lips, she was brought back to so many memories. She watched as her mother ate as well. She was still the same old poised and proper Amelia Rodrigo that she knew.
"Ma?" her mom hummed in reply. "How are you?"
Before Amelia answered, she wiped her mouth with a napkin. "I'm always fine, sweetheart."
"You always say that. How are you... really?"
Amelia smiled. "I'm happy... and that's what you want right?" She nodded. "Stop asking about me, anak. Tell me about you!"
"About me?" she giggled, not knowing what to answer her mother.
Amelia chuckled. "Of course! I've been away for so long. Tell me about him? You found the one?"
Her lips instantly formed into a smile. "I did.."
"Tell me, sweetheart..."
She sighed and thought about where she should begin. There's so many things to say that her mind started to jumble up the words. Just the thought of the man that made her life colorful excites her.
