Hey everyone! this is my first story and i hope you'd like it. Tell me what you think and sorry it's not really long. thank you.
CHAPTER 1
It’s March and today’s mum’s birthday. It’s 12:00am on the digital clock beside my bed. I got up and opened my drawer to pick the present I’d wrapped yesterday. I opened the door quietly and walked a long corridor to get to the stairs and go to the patio. This is what I don’t like about my house, a mansion rather. It is so big I sometimes got lost when I was a kid. It has 15 bedrooms, 5 on the ground floor and 10 on the upper floor, that’s aside the 3 kitchens, 5 stores, 3 sitting rooms, 2 dining rooms, a children’s room, 2 nurseries, 6 staff rooms though outside the main house except for Eleanor’s , our chief housemaid which is downstairs, about 20 toilets and bathrooms, a waiting lounge and a very big library.
I opened the patio door and walked bare feet into the garden. It’s a large one and mum always have tea with her friends here. I placed the present beside the white roses contrasting the blue wrapping sheet I had used; she’d definitely notice it when she enters the garden. I looked to my left at the swimming pool and was tempted to swim but I knew if nobody wakes up, dad will. He always hears the faintest splash.
I went back to my room and got back into bed. It’s exactly eight months now since graduation and I haven’t been doing anything tangible other than having a dance crew and we meet thrice in a week. There’s always at least a competition every two months or thereabout. Not that mum or dad was complaining but I have to move on with life, take my next step like Florence has.
She’d relocated to Australia with her family when her dad was transferred to another branch of the law firm he’s been working with. So I lose my boy friend, ex now and my best friend. Life’s so unfair. I need to do something important. I want to either go to a university or get a job like Florence did. My door opened and Evans and Belinda entered (my brother and sister).
“Have you got mum’s present?” Belie, as we all call her, asked. Evans sat on the chair beside my bed.
“Yeah, I’ve dropped it where she’d find it. What’s up with you guys and what are you doing in my room at 12:30am?
“We just dropped ours in her study and we didn’t see yours there.” Evans said. That had always been our custom, drop their presents in their study and they always dropped ours in the children’s room if they don’t hand it over themselves.
“I dropped it somewhere else, it’s a surprise. Don’t tell mum I got her a present, okay?” I said raising my eyebrows.
“Okay, good night.” I kissed Belie on the cheek; Evans doesn’t let me do that anymore, says he’s a grown guy now. He’ll be 17 in May and Belie will be 13 in June. I will be 19 on April 7th and it wasn’t a coincidence that our birth months followed each other. It was mum’s doing, she really planned it. After they left, I made up my mind; I am going to a university and will study management. That’s a good course to study and if I fail to get admitted, then I’d work in dad’s architectural company.
I’m not going to tell them, mum might pull strings to get me admitted in a school and I have to start doing things on my own now. I don’t know when I fell asleep but when the sun rays filtered into my room, I knew it was morning already.
