Chapter 20- A romantic welcome.

CHAPTER 20

             On Friday, the next morning, I made an effort to get up at 6am and jogged down the street. I had taken up jogging about a week ago since I wasn’t swimming regularly anymore. I got back home at 6:30am and showered. Edward was coming home and I needed to look my best. I ate some apples, five I think, as I soaked myself in the bathtub. When I left the bathroom, I wore my robe and went to the kitchen to make myself breakfast. I had toast bread and omelette and tea.

 My class was at 9am and thank God I was a very fast dresser. I didn’t take long to get into the cloth I had set aside the previous night. I looked at myself in the mirror for the last time and satisfied with the pony tail and side bang I’d packed my hair into, I stepped out of the house. It was 8:30am. I wanted to call Ed but decided not to, I want him to also anticipate my presence.

              “You’re looking and acting really happy this morning. What’s up?” Brian asked as we ate some snacks in the cafeteria. It was 11am and I’d finished my first class. I still had two more to go and I’d be finishing at 6pm.

“Nothing, really. I just feel like being happy.2 they shrugged and our conversation changed topics, we talked about max’s crush on Brenda which he’d finally confessed though, not to her.

“She’s just so cool; I lose my mind when I’m with her. You guys know what I mean?” max said looking distant like he was already imagining the things he’d do with her. I nodded.

“Uh uh, why don’t you just tell her instead of punishing yourself by staying in this fantasy world of yours?” I said as I poked at my sausages. Good. I’m even too excited to eat.

“I just think it’s too early and I want to know her more and better.” He dipped his hand into my plate and took one of my sausages.

“Put that back else I’ll send you to hell and back.” I said feigning annoyance. He only laughed and Melissa and Brian each took the remaining sausages.

“You guys are joking, right? Gimme my sausages now!” I roared. They looked at me and then themselves and threw it in their mouths. “You were too happy to eat anyway, so why bother?” Melissa said, mouthful.

“Who told you I wasn’t going to eat it? You guys will definitely buy my meals for the next one week. I swear.” Brian chuckled and smacked his lips. I threw my disposable cup at him.

“Ouch!”

“That serves you right.” I said and smirked.

“Ed’s arriving today.” They all paused to look at me like they weren’t sure of what I said. “I’m giving him a second chance you know. I really can’t deny the fact that I still love him.” I said to them.

“This is what I call good news. No wonder you’re so happy.” Brian said and threw the cup at me; I ducked and stick my tongue. He did his own back.

“Wow! I told you, didn’t I? I know you guys were meant for each other. I’m happy for you.” Melissa smiled at me and I smiled back.

“Cool, seems like I’m the only one who needs to get hooked, right?” max said, feigning a sad, jealous look. We all laughed at him and he raised his eyebrows.

“Yeah buddy, seems like it’s only you.” Brian said. I checked my wrist watch, it was 12pm. I had a tutorial class scheduled for the first year students and it’s time already.

“Guys, I gotta get going. Remember I have tutorials with the 100L students.” I arranged the change on the table into my wallet which I threw into my hand bag.

“Oh yeah that’s true. So how are the students? Brilliant or dull?” Melissa asked as I got up from the table.

“Well, they’re making an effort at least their performance is a little above average. I’m late already, catch you guys later.” I rushed off without waiting to hear their response. The students were waiting already. I wished I could schedule the class for weekends but still I wouldn’t want anything to interrupt my weekends. I entered the small class and the lesson began.

             I walked to my car, excitement coursing through my body. Ed would be back, it was 6:30pm already and his flight was to land at 3pm. I turned on the ignition and drove home. I bet I was a little over the speed limit. I drove into my driveway and there he was sitting on my porch. I wanted to fly out of the car and just kiss the hell out of him but I kept my cool. He got up and walked towards me with the card I’d left for him in his hands.

       “You’re back!” I squealed as he hugged me tight. He smelled of clean sand and ocean and a bit of rose scent, probably his shampoo. I inhaled it. Man, this is nice.

“Yes love, for you.” He released me and planted a kiss on my forehead before I raised my lips to his. We kissed and I felt myself blushing as we did.

“Thanks for the card and you’re looking real hot and sexy. Blue and yellow? Am I suspecting a reason here?” he said and entwined his fingers with mine and led me to his house.

“Our favourite colours. Just thought I should give you a warm welcome and how did you get inside? Your keys are with me.”

“I have a spare one, I didn’t want to lose the whole bunch that was why I gave it to you.” He said as we got to his car. We just left my car for his? I thought we were going into the house.

“That sweet of you, the colours I mean. I love it. Though, I prefer this.” He reached for the ribbon and pins in my hair and let it loose. My hair tumbled in a cascade down my back as he ran his fingers through it. I smiled at him and earned a peck on my lips.

             “I’m taking you on a date, can I?” he said pleadingly with his eyes. A date? Oh, man, he’s just so romantic.

“Really? I’d love to. Where are we going?” I couldn’t hide my excitement and neither could he. He walked me to other side of the car and opened the door for me. He’s changed his car? My man must be stinkingly rich. How rich is he?

“That’s going to be a surprise, sweetheart.” I loved the sound of sweetheart on his lips. He got into the driver’s seat and turned to look at me.

“Ready to go?” he asked, caressing my cheek. I would really prefer we stay at home and make mad, crazy love on the kitchen table. I smiled at my thought.

“Can’t wait.” I said and kissed him before he turned on the ignition and drove onto the main road.
