CHAPTER 18
When I woke up on Saturday it was 10am and feeling lazy, I went back to sleep. I finally got up at 12pm and took my bath before going downstairs to make some pancakes. After eating I threw my swimsuit into my bag and went out of the house. I found a note at the door, thank you for listening, it said. I smiled, got into my car and drove to the swimming pool.
Melissa and Brian met me there; max was too busy with his heart shaped design to come. He said he was getting ready to send it to my dad. We were at the pool till 4pm and lazied around the club house then went to the cinema. It was 8pm before I got back to the house. I went inside and grabbed Ed’s keys and went to his house. I wanted to know what it looked like. How much he’d changed. I opened the door and went in, it was spacious not much furniture but the ones there were classy and unique. Designs I’d never seen before, guessed he made them himself. A picture of his dad hung on one of the walls of the dining room and some paintings decorated the wall.
There was a blue carpet on the floor and the curtains and drapes were blue and yellow. Blue was his favourite colour and yellow’s mine. I climbed the stairs and entered his room. Clothes were everywhere, typical of Ed. He must have been so anxious to get to Australia. I packed the clothes and folded them, they were clean and I inhaled his scent. I put them in the closet and was when I noticed the photo frame by his bedside. It was a picture of me in my school uniform and another one was the both of us kissing. He had snapped the latter himself. I smiled at the thought that he woke up to see my face first thing every morning. Out of curiosity, I opened his drawers and I found an album that contained all of our pictures. There were some where it was I, Edward and Florence, and there was one both I and Edward took with his dad. Tears threatened to fall but I held them back. We were so happy together and I was going to give him a second chance to start over again and make things right.
I brought out my phone and dialled mum’s number.
“Hello darling. How are you?” mum said. “I’m fine mum. Guess what?”
“I’m not good at guessing so please just tell me. You sound so excited.” Why wouldn’t I? The love of my life just came back to me.
“Ed’s back and is living next door to me!” I squealed with excitement.
“Are you serious? What does he look like now? More handsome?” mum surprised me by squealing too. Man, she really meant it when she said she’d welcome him.
“I’m glad you got your man back. Is he there? Can I speak with him? I need to apologise.”
“No he’s not mum. He travelled to Australia this morning for a business meeting and won’t be back until next week or maybe more.” I said and sighed.
“Okay, call me when he’s back. Your dad isn’t home yet. He’s been busy with a new project. Your max just sent him the design.”
“Oh he’s sent it and he’s not my max, mum. He’s just Max. So when is dad starting on the building?”
“There’d start in four days time, the owner wants it completed in 2months at most. So he’s working really hard now.”
“Tell dad to have some rest once in a while, I don’t want him crashing down. What kind of company is it anyway?” I asked.
“It’s an automobile company all the way from Australia.”
“Oh, I see. Anyway take care mum, I have to go.”
“Alright dear, have a nice night.” She hung up and I closed the album on my laps. I went back to my house and got into bed.

Three days after, I got a call from Edward. We talked just like old friends do and surprisingly it didn’t feel awkward.
“So how did the meeting go?” I asked.
“We’ve signed the deal so I can start planning for my company.”
“Well I know of someone that can draw up plans and designs for you. He’s a friend of mine studying architecture and works for dad’s company.”
“Oh thanks but my company is taking care of all that, its part of the deal we signed. I’m grateful, really. That means you’re not mad at me anymore, right?” he said and I felt kind of disappointed.
“Okay and yeah I’m not that mad at you. Well I have to go, got a class now. Bye.” I didn’t wait to hear his; I was late for class already. I sighed and smiled to myself as I entered the class. I was falling in love with Ed all over again.
After class, I met the others at the cafeteria
“Hey! What are you guys up to?” I said as I took my seat. “Well max here has got a crush.” Melissa said, giggling.
“No way!” max retorted and we laughed at him. He started blushing which made us laugh the more.
“Ew! You’re blushing.” I said and we laughed again. “So, who’s the lucky lass?” I asked.
“It’s Brenda, one of the freshers. The girl that wears huge glasses.” Brian said.
“Oh, that girl? Well he’s got himself a professional crush. Max, tell me about it.” I winked at him and he raised his eyebrows.
“There’s nothing to tell about. Melissa saw us talking in the corridor and then – well I helped her with an assignment and then – then she kissed me. Melissa assumed I’m crushing on her.” We all looked at him raising our eyebrows.
“What?” he asked.
“You checked out her ass when she was leaving, remember.” Melissa said again.
“I didn’t.” Max said, not noticing that Brenda had entered the cafeteria.
“Here she comes, guys.” Brenda looked towards us and waved her hand at max and he waved back, blushing. We laughed at him again and he blushed deeper. I invited Brenda to our table and max felt like disappearing. Brenda on the other hand felt really free and she looked prettier when she removed her glasses. I, Melissa and Brian excused them and even though max looked like he wanted to curse us, he was thankful we gave them ‘alone time’. I had finished my class for the day and I went home. Just before I got into bed, Ed called again; we didn’t talk for long he just wanted to hear my voice.
I closed my eyes and imagined us happily married. I sighed at the thought and drifted off to sleep. I hadn’t had a blissful sleep like that in months.
