You put a lot of focus onto your studies and had no interest in dating, to the dismay of James Potter. You were kind of friends and had been since you first started at Hogwarts, but you had never seen him as anything beyond that and had made it very clear. It wasn't apparent anymore if James even liked you or if he just gained enjoyment from flirting. From the beginning he had flirted with you at every chance he got and even when you told him that you were never going to requite his feelings, he continued on no matter how often you turned him down.

For years you had gotten used to him flirting and it just seemed to be how your relationship would be forever, and even if it was questionable at best, you were used to it now. Whenever you saw him, you knew what was going to come up in conversation and you knew what was going to happen.

You had been happily sat in the common room, reading a textbook from the library to help with an essay that you needed to write for one of your classes. You had been trying to focus but when you heard the voices of James and Sirius coming down from the boy's dormitories, you knew it wasn't going to go well for your attempt at studying. You did you best to keep your focus on what you were trying to read but as they entered the common room, it was clear that you weren't going to be able to ignore their presence.

"Y/N," James grinned dropping himself down into the seat beside you, slinging an arm lazily around your shoulders. "As beautiful as always."

You rolled your eyes at him, putting the book down into your lap.

"James, as irritating as always," you retorted.

He clutched a hand against his heart, dramatically gasping as though you had mortally wounded him with the words you had likely said to him hundreds of times.

"Congratulations, you've finally managed to break my heart," he said, wiping away fake tears from his eyes.

You smacked him with your book, not caring if you actually injured him as he deserved it most of the time.

"I'm glad I have finally succeeded at my life's mission," you frowned. "Now that we have clarified this, can you leave me alone?"

"You're really trying to hurt me today," he said, pretending to sob.

"And I hope I'm doing a good job of it."
