Although you were completely interested in the triwizard tournament, excited to see what would happen, and also seen as Harry was participating it meant you wanted to support him. The only real downside of the tournament, was the fact that it also came with the yule ball.Every girl was clearly excited about the fact they could pretend to be a princess for a day, and they'd finally get to have a date that wasn't to Hogsmeade. You weren't fussed though. You'd be going of course, you assumed you'd be going with your best friends, none of you seeming too interested in finding a date.
Granted you wanted a date. And if you were going with your friends, technically you were going with the person you wanted. Since you had first met, you had been in love with your best friend George, you knew he didn't feel the same, so you settled with being friends with him and his twin. He wasn't never going to ask you to the ball, and you certainly weren't prepared to ask him.
It was a non-verbal agreement that you were going to go with the twins, however that fact got ruined after Fred asked Angelina to go with him. It'd be odd if you went with George alone, it'd seem like a date (not that you were arguing with that fact) but he wouldn't want that.
After your class, you were heading back to the hufflepuff common room, when you heard your name to be called out to you. Turning around you noticed the taller twin smiling at you.
"Hey Y/N," he smiled draping an arm around your shoulders. "Where are you off to?"
"Hi George. Just back to the common room."
"Can I ask you something?" He questioned.
You paused, feeling that the conversation could be better if you weren't continuing to walk seen as he was using a more serious tone that what was usual for him.
"Sure. What's up?" You smiled warmly looking up at him, grateful for how close he currently was.
"Has anyone asked you to the ball yet?"
"No."
You didn't expect anyone to. And if anyone did ask you to, you weren't certain you'd be able to say yes, due to the fact that there was only one person you would actually want to go with.
"Good!" He exclaimed too gleefully. "Well not good. Bad really. Anyone would be lucky to go with you and should be jumping at the chance. But it is good as it means I can still ask you."
You furrowed your eyebrows. Was he really suggesting what you thought he was?
"Pardon?" You asked pretty sure your ears had been playing tricks on you.
"Sorry. Um... I've never had to ask someone this before. There's never been anyone I kind of wanted to ask anything along these lines before. Since we met... um... I guess I liked you a lot really. Fred told me I was barmy that I could like someone without actually knowing them in the slightest. But... he... er... encouraged this I guess. Told me not to be a prat and tell you. So really what I'm asking is would you want to be my date? For the yule ball I mean. Or in general," he rambled.
For the first time he didn't seem completely sure of himself, if anything he was a complete mess with his words. His arm stayed wrapped around your shoulder, even though he seemed hesitant in doing so now, not that he had done the gesture many times before.
"Really?" You responded probably too dubiously.
He nodded down at you.
"Sure," you shrugged. "In all honesty, I've liked you since we first met too. I just never thought that you could like me so I didn't say anything."
George laughed moving you so that his arm was still draped on your shoulder but so that you were facing him.
"How couldn't I like you?"
"I could think of many reasons."
"Well don't. I like you and you like me and that is what currently matters," he smiled, leaning in to peck your cheek.
