Whenever Gryffindor won a quidditch game, everything became manic and it seemed impossible to allow anything productive to occur. There was a complete shut down in productivity for the evening and a party would be thrown in the common room to celebrate their triumphant win.
You weren't the biggest fan of parties, especially those involving many teenagers forced into a fairly cramped room with alcohol being passed around. However you weren't going to put up a fuss, you didn't want to be a buzz kill even though you disagreed with what was going on, and it was their own livers they were wrecking.
Although you didn't really follow quidditch and it did kind of go over your head, literally, you were still trying to support the team seen as they were your friends. It was the first year your best friend Ginny was actually part of the team, granted as a substitute but nevertheless it was very important to her and her older three brothers whom were also on the team.
You had planned to stick by Ginny the whole time throughout the party, not really wanting to have to converse with your other peers but she had disappeared to argue with Ron over something. This meant you were left on your own, sat on the sofa of the common room trying not to be bothered by people accidentally bumping into you as they moved around the room or accidentally spilt their drinks in attempts to pass them from person to person.
Soon you were no longer on your own as someone sat by your side, resting a loose arm around your shoulders.
"Hello Y/N," Fred grinned.
"Hi Fred."
You weren't overly close with the twins, but you got along well enough seen as you spent most of your summers and other holidays at the burrow due to your friendship with the youngest Weasley.
"Do you want to know a secret about my sister?" He smiled, the smell of alcohol on his breath practically choking you.
Your nose scrunched up as you tried to lean away from the overwhelming stench of alcohol.
"Have you been reading her diary again?" You questioned rolling your eyes.
Ginny had never kept a diary, they brought back bad memories.
"I don't need to. I know my baby sister like the back of my hand," he said self-assured. "But I don't know whether you knew that your best friend has a huge crush on someone."
A sigh escaped your lips. Although you were perfectly happy being friends with Ginny, but you did like her a lot more than just as friends. It did pain you knew that she liked someone else, it was probably Harry seen as she did pay him a lot of attention.
"And why are you telling me?" You frowned.
It wasn't as though you weren't fond of his company, but when he was drunk and trying to tell you unwanted information about your best friend, it wasn't the most pleasant of situations.
"Because Ginny likes you. Actually Ginny is in love with you. She thinks we don't listen to her, but she talks about you a lot. Like too much. Honestly you seemed nice until I had to hear about you every time I talk to my sister," he sighed leaning back into the sofa.
"She likes me?" You questioned.
He chuckled at your shocked expression. "And you like her. Go tell her. She may be abrupt and sometimes annoying but she doesn't want to get hurt so she'll never tell you. You'll be good for her though. I never thought anyone would be good enough for her, but all of us who've met you know you two would work well."
You couldn't help but smile at him. Even if he was intoxicated it was oddly sweet of him, which you thought would never be something you could ever possibly say about Fred Weasley.
"Really?"
"Go tell her now before she moves on and tries to get over her unrequited crush," he smiled giving you a shove from the sofa.
"Thanks," you smiled back.
A hint of confidence washed over you, forcing you to stride through the crowd over to the red-headed girl. You tapped her shoulder to pull her attention away from her brother.
"Hi Y/N," she said warmly.
"Can we talk?"
She nodded flippantly saying goodbye to Ron before following you a few steps away from him. You weren't certain how to start this conversation so you decided on being blunt.
"Do you like me?"
Ginny seemed taken back, but did her best to compose herself.
"Of course, you're my best friend, it'd be a bit weird if I didn't like you."
"Not like that. Do you like me as more than a friend?" You asked hesitantly.
"No..." she said as though she was trying to convince herself rather than you.
"That's not what I heard from him," you stated jutting your thumb towards Fred who was sat trying to hide the fact that he was watching the scene play out.
She moved her mouth as though she was trying to say something, however nothing came out. You weren't sure what had come over you but you too a leap of courage and leaned forward to press your lips to her.
