Almost straight from leaving Hogwarts, you and Neville had moved into a small cottage pretty much in the middle of nowhere, knowing that a life of peace and tranquillity was something that the both of you needed even if it was just for a short while. The original plan was to stay there for a few months to get a break from the hell that had occurred whilst you were in school, but things had changed.

You had fallen in love with your house and seen as now, years later, the two of you had become professors, you spent a majority of your time at Hogwarts anyway so it was nice to have your break from the place in such a picturesque and calm home.

It wasn't out of the ordinary for one of your to spontaneously suggest a walk into the surrounding forests, but Neville's added nervous behaviour and the lack of information he was providing for why you were going on such a walk was concerning you. You assumed he had good reason to not tell you what was going on, but it didn't make you worry any less really.

Finally the two of you reached a small clearing that you had discovered a while back, but it wasn't a normal forest clearing you had grown to love. Between the branches of the surrounding trees were twinkling lights, lighting the dismal winter evening, and an old beloved blanket lay on the floor with many of your favourite dishes laid out on it.

"What is this Nev?" You smiled, pleasantly surprised with what lie before you, not that explained what was going on any more than anything prior to that had.

"Well... I love you a lot, and I realised I didn't show it as much as I should, so I wanted to do something special for you," he said softly.

You took a step forward, standing on your tip-toes so that you could press a kiss to his lips, leaving your hand to cup his cheek.

"You didn't have to do this Love. I know that you love me, and I love you ever so much, you never have to prove that."

He nodded lightly. "However... I guess proving my love for you is the whole point of this really."

You raised an eyebrow not quite certain what he meant by that.

"Pardon?"

"I... um... well I didn't plan for this to happen exactly like this, I thought it would happen a little different, but now is as good a time as any," he started, as you took a step away from him so that you could look at his awkward expression over whatever he was planning to say. "I love you Y/N with my whole heart. I always have, and I know that I always will. We have been together since fourth year and if our relationship managed to stay strong through everything that happened then I doubt that anything could ever stop it. Every second with you is better than the last and I certainly could never imagine a life worth living that you aren't involved in. So what I am trying to say is, I would really like to spend the rest of my life with you so could you please do me the greatest honour and become my wife?"

By no means had you ever imagined this was where the day was going to go but by no means were your upset or disappointed that it had happened in such a way. Neville held out a small ring box, showing you the simple ring that you recognised as his mothers.

You nodded uncontrollably, throwing your arms around his shoulders, pulling him down into a kiss.

"Of course, I love you," you beamed.

"Thank Merlin," he sighed. "I had convinced myself you were going to say no. But I am very glad you said yes, I love you too."
