The Race Is On

Kai POV

I look around and see thousands of people cheering for us. Through their deafening hollers Present Mic's voice is heard.

Present Mic: "Welcome to the UA sports festival. Where up and coming heroes leave everything on the field as they fight for the chance to achieve world wide fame. This first group are no strangers to the spotlight. You know them from withstanding a villain attack. The dazzling students lining up your TVs with solid gold skill, the hero course students of class 1a."

Deku: "There's a lot more people than I thought."

Kai: "We'll be alright, just give it your all."

Present Mic: "They haven't been getting as nearly as much screen time but this next group is still chalk full of talent. Welcome hero course class 1b. Next up, general studies classes c, d and e. Supports classes f, g and h. And finally business classes i, j and k. Give it up for all of UA's first year contestants."

Midnight: "Now the introductory speech."

Kai: "That outfit is beyond inappropriate for the occasion."

Mineta: "I like it!!!"

Kai: "Shut up Grabbin Grape."

Midnight: "Silence everyone, and for the student pledge we have Kai Midoriya!"

Bakugo: "What!?!?! That should be me!!! I scored the highest on the entrance test!!!!"

I make my way to the podium where all eyes fall on me.

Kai: "I just wanna say that I want everyone to give it their all, every pro hero will be watching. They'll want to see what we can do so let's give them a show."

Midnight: "Without further ado, it's time for us to get started."

A massive projection is shown as a slot machine roster is spun. It finally stops displaying the first game.

Deku: "So it's gonna be an obstacle course."

Midnight: "All eleven classes will participate in this treacherous contest. The track is four kilometers around the outside of the stadium. I don't wanna restrain anyone at least in this game. As long as you don't leave the course, you're free to do whatever your heart desires. Now then, take your places contestants."

We head to the gate and wait.

Deku: "Good luck Kai."

Kai: *smiles* "You too."

The three lights slowly go out before Midnight shouts.

Midnight: "Begin!!!"

We all crowd through the door trying to get through. I look at Deku and see him getting pushed back. I then look to the left to see Todoroki getting ready to use his quirk. I grab the back of Deku's uniform and power up my legs. I then hop from wall to wall and exit as a blast of ice goes off.

Deku: "Thanks Kai, I owe you one."

Kai: "Just focus on completing this course."

I wince as my heart twinges in pain. I force stop my quirk and run with Deku along the track. When we get a bit down the road we encounter the robots from the entrance exam.  

Kai: "Oh great."

Deku: "What do we do?"

Kai: "We push forward."

Todoroki zips by and freezes the robot solid. I use this moment to run by it and go after him. I come to a dead stop seeing the next obstacle, a chasm. I look over the edge to see a massive drop. 

I look up to see Todoroki using his ice to skate across the ropes. I power up my feet and jump from platform to platform. As I make it halfway through I see Bakugo explode himself over the entire course. I roll my eyes and upon landing run after the now second place Bakugo. 

We run before stopping at a minefield. Great, now they're trying to blow us up. I hear an explosion and see Bakugo trying to take the lead from Todoroki. I power my feet and hopscotch in between the mines. 

About halfway through the ground rumbles. I look behind me and see Deku soaring through the air on an armor shard. I smile and quicken my pace to the finish line. I get within feet of the end of the minefield with Todoroki on my right, Bakugo on my left and Deku above me. I grab Deku's hand and jump over the rest of the mines.
