You Ruined My Life

CAROLINE POTTER

The second he left, I stood up. My ankle was bound to the bed but the rope had some slack. I pulled on it until my ankle started to bleed. I tried cutting it with the glass and that didn't work either. I searched the drawers but it was empty. Then I checked the bathroom and it was empty too. There was nothing for me to use to escape. I'm trapped. I really am a prisoner.

Theo walked back into the room holding a healer's kit. I stood near the window and he looked at me with sorrow. "Please just sit down, Caroline. You can't escape." he said. "Fuck you," I spat. He just shook his head. "Sit down," he grumbled. He pulled me towards the bed and sat me down. Then he took my hand and cleaned the cut. Then he wrapped it in a bandage. I pulled my hand away and he exhaled heavily. "I'm sorry, Caroline. We never meant to hurt you." he said. "Well, you did." I spat. He nodded. Then he packed his healer's kit and put it away. "Draco will be in soon," he said. I sat on the bed and let tears roll down my cheeks. Then the door opened.
Draco and Theo walked in and I stared at Draco. "Line," he said softly as he walked towards me. Then his face fell as he saw the rope. "Why is she restrained?" he asked. Theo shrugged. "She didn't go down easy," he said. Draco sighed. "I'm not surprised," he said. I hugged my knees to my chest and pressed my back against the headboard. "You can go, Theo. Thank you for your help," Draco said. He nodded. "See you soon, Caroline," he replied. Then he left. Draco walked closer and I stood up, backing into the wall. "Stay away from me!" I said. His face fell. "Please, Line-" he started. "Don't call me that, you don't get to call me that!" I yelled. "Don't be angry. I did this to protect you," he said. "Don't be angry? Really? You're a death eater! You kidnapped me and brought me to the one place every death eater knows! You locked me in a room and took my wand and tied me up!" I yelled. "Theo tied you up because you were being reckless," he said. "I don't care! Let me go! If you care about me at all, let me go. I want my brother. My friends, my family!" I said. "I can't." he said. "I hate you. I was wrong about everything. About trusting you, about knowing you could never hurt me. I was wrong about it all. I hate you and I will never ever love you again." I spat. "That's not true. You're just angry-" he started. "Yes, I am angry. Because you stole me from my brother. But most of all, you lied to me. For I don't know how long. You lied and you helped the man who murdered my parents and ruined my life." I said. "He ruined my life too!" he yelled. "Boohoo, poor little rich boy. You are just like your father!" I hissed. He grabbed my throat and held me against the wall. I gripped at his wrists, trying to breathe. "Don't ever say that again," he said in a low voice. "Do it. Hit me," I said. "What?" he faltered. "Hit me!" I yelled. "Caroline, I would never hurt you," he said. I glanced down at his hand on my throat and he let go instantly. "I didn't mean to-" he started. "I don't care. Do it. You're one of them aren't you? So do it! Hit me, beat me, torture me, rape me, kill me! That's what death eaters do and you are a death eater!" I yelled. "I'm not going to hurt you." he said. "Show me your arm," I said. He looked down as he pulled up his sleeve and whispered a spell. It revealed the dark mark on his arm. Tears streamed down my cheeks and I shook my head. "You're a death eater," I said. He was quiet. "What was the thing you had to do while you left me petrified in the Room of Requirement?" I asked. He looked at me with fear. "Please don't make me answer that," he said. "No. You don't deserve my sympathy. Answer me." I spat. He sighed. "It was my task. I was to repair the cabinet and let the death eaters into the school and then I had to kill Dumbledore." he said. My heart stopped. "You- you killed Dumbledore?" I asked. "No, I didn't. Snape did." he said. I choked back a sob. "I'm sorry, Line. I'm so sorry." he said. "Tell me, Draco. If Voldemort told you to kill me, would you do it?" I asked. "You know I wouldn't," he said. "I don't believe you," I said. "Please, just remember what we have. We love each other. We spent endless nights together talking about our futures together. "You want to be an auror, I want to be a healer. We wanted kids. You wanted to name them after your parents. We want to live somewhere near a forest or a beach. We're going to have a life," he said. "We were...not anymore." I said. "I'm sorry I took you from your brother but he'll be fine. He's Harry Potter. He'll be just fine." he said. "No, he won't. You don't understand, our magic is never at its strongest unless we are together. The twin flame never burns brightest unless we stand together. His magic will be weaker without me, same with mine." I said. "I didn't know," he said. "Of course you didn't. You didn't ask me before doing any of this." I said. "I won't apologize for saving your life!" he exclaimed. I glared at him. "You ruined my life." I said. "I'm sorry," he said.
Then he left.
