We continued walking after the gunshot had gone off.
Lori had turned around, making Andrea stop in her tracks.
"You still worrying about it?" She asked.
"It was a gunshot," Lori announced.
"We all heard it."
"Why one? Why just one gunshot?" Lori turned towards us.
"Maybe they took down a walker." Daryl guessed.
"Please don't patronize me. You know Rick wouldn't risk a gunshot to pit down one walker." Lori started.
"Neither would Shane. They're smart, they would do it quietly." I agreed with her. She looked over at me, and I slightly nodded at her, and she sent me a small smile for agreeing with her.
"Shouldn't they have caught up with us by now?" Carol asked.
"There's nothing we can do about it anyway. Can't run around these woods chasing echoes." Daryl looked around.
"So what do we do?" Lori asked.
"Same as we've been doing. Work our way back to the highway while still looking for Sophia." I took the words out of Daryl's mouth.
"I'm sure they'll hook up with us back at the RV," Andrea reassured.
Lori passed the two, and they started walking. Since I was staying in the back, I didn't start moving until Andrea and Carol started.
"I'm sorry for what you're going through. I know how you feel." Andrea said.
"I suppose you do. Thank you. The thought of her out here by herself. It's the not knowing that's killing me. I just keep hoping and praying she doesn't wind up like Amy." Carol said, and I traced my eyes down to the dirt.
Shit was about to get real.
"Oh, God. That's the worst thing I ever said." Carol cried.
"We're all hoping and praying with you, for what it's worth." Andrea kept her cool, surprisingly.
"I'll tell you what it's worth. Not a damn thing. It's a waste of time all this hoping and praying. 'Cause, we're gonna locate that little girl, and she's gonna be just fine." Daryl started. "Am I the only one zen around here? Good lord." We started walking again.
━━━━━━━☆☆━━━━━━━
"We'll lose the light before too long. I think we should call it." Daryl said.
"Let's head back." Lori agreed.
"We'll pick it up again tomorrow?" Carol questioned.
"Yeah, we'll pick it up again tomorrow." I nodded.
We started walking back in silence.
━━━━━━━☆☆━━━━━━━
"How much farther? Lori asked.
"Not much. Maybe a hundred yards as the crow flies." Daryl estimated.
"Too bad we're not crows." Andrea sludged her feet.
Andrea let out a scream, and we all scrambled to where she was.
We arrived at where she was, and before I could even pull out one of my knives, a woman on a horse rode in with a baseball bat to hit the geek that was attacking Andrea.
