Chapter 47: The Journey

After the incident of Axel sliding, he demanded Amon to get in the back. Amon immediately obeyed, and Axel took over.

Currently, we are roughly 8 hours into our travel, needing approximately 18 hours to get to the southern parts of Texas from southern Florida.

Lying upon a ton of crumpled blankets, Amon and I spent our first hour teleporting as many blankets into the bed of the truck as possible. Now, the metal bottom is completely covered in warm, comfortable blankets. The other 7 hours were spent sleeping, my body entirely bundled up in blankets while lying on the passenger side, my feet down under the dashboard. I slept facing Axel on my left side, not wanting to leave his side now that he has returned to me.

Amon also slept, lying on the bed of blankets while enjoying all of the open space. By the time I woke up, the sun had begun to peak above the horizon. Axel strictly kept to the desolate country roads as much as possible, avoiding any contact with humans.

Opening my eyes, I slowly stretch out my body, raising my arms above my head and stretching out my legs. I let out a long groan, feeling amazing as a result of the stretch. Axel remains focused on the road despite acknowledging that I have awoken.

Sitting up, I look back at Amon, watching him continue to sleep. Looking over at Axel again, I frown, "...Bad timing...but I gotta pee."

Axel glanced over at me, letting out a huff in response as the truck came to a slow stop, 'Come.' He then opened the driver door, exiting the truck.

"Wait!" I called out, getting up to climb over the driver's seat. Jumping down from the truck, Axel watches me, awaiting my words.

"Can we just stop at a gas station or something? They have restrooms, drinks and food." My fingers ran through my hair, roughly combing it in the off chance he lets me use a toilet.

Axel let out a deep grumble, 'No. The risk of exposure is too high. Make it quick, your scent is lingering.'

Sighing, I look all around us, seeing nothing but trees, "But if something catches the scent of my urine, wouldn't that be worse than exposure?"

Axel slammed the side of his fist against the side of his truck, making the back doors open while scaring Amon awake at the same time, 'Yes. Regardless, rain is approaching. Your urine will become diluted beyond recognition.' He informed me, slowly shifting his gaze over and onto me.

Amon began to climb out of the back, letting out a tired groan, "...Quiet down you two..."

Sighing, I walked my way out into the woods, stopping beyond the treeline once noticing Axel is following.

Turning, I look back at him, "What? I'm okay."

His intense eyes reveal the overwhelming instinct to protect me, he begins to purr quietly, 'You must be protected at all costs. Your scent has changed...'

My eyes widen at his words, my heart beginning to pound, "...I'm not alone, am I?"

Axel smirked at me, turning away to allow me to have privacy, 'Do not waste time.'

Smiling, I quickly get on with my business. Once I had finished, Axel made his way back to the truck with me, ensuring I was inside. He then waited until Amon returned.
