Mantheniels POV
Fire.
Everything was blazing. I look around me frantically, my heart beating like galloping horses on an open field.
"Naneth!" I scream, for my mother. My vision blurs as hot tears sting my eyes. Where was she? Fear grips me as I take random steps around me, in which direction do I go? I take a step forward when I spot her. My heart lightens a little at this as her eyes find mine. They were burning, like the village around us. She strides over to me, her blue skin a fair contrast to the inferno around her. She grabs me in one swift motion as my little feet struggle to keep up with her. We reach our house, or where it used to stand. It was now burning like the others, ashes raining down on me as I scream for my father.
"Ada!" I run towards the front door, burning my hands as I pry it open. I nearly scream my head off at the sight, my father was on the ground his skin burned to a crisp. I run towards him, a buzz in my ears only to be held back by strong arms.
"No, Mantheniel. It is too late. You must be kept safe!" My mother warns, she takes hold of my hands as I start to cry harder. She drags me to the back of our burning house and opens a small door way that lead underground. She kneels in front of me, her eyes now normal and red.
"Stay down there until I come get you. Do you understand my little torch?" She wipes a tear off my face as I start to whimper and shake my head.
"No. I want to go with you." I cry, she smiles at this. Her hand strokes the back of my head as she places a kiss on my forehead.
"It is not safe. Please stay hidden." She sounded sad and I knew it was breaking her heart to make such decisions. I had no idea why she even made them.
"Will you come back?" I ask between sobs, I bite my lip to stop them from quivering. I needed to be brave. I needed to be brave for my mother and my father, who I hope was alive and well although the heaviness in my heart told me that was not the case.
"Yes my little torch. Of course I will." She promises as she caresses my cheek again. She then takes out a dagger, it glints under the sun and hands it to me. My little hands barely held on to it. I walk down the steps to our basement and turn to see my mothers face one last time before she closes the doors before me. I am engulfed my darkness and fear crawls down my spine as I hear the screams above me. I huddle down in a corner as tears threatened to come out of my eyes. I put hands around my ears to try and muffle the sound as I let the tears fall. The sound of burning and screaming still seeped through my ears and I have never felt more fear in all my years.
After a moment the floor above me breaks as embers of wood fall on me. I scream in pain as one of them hits me straight on the left side of my face leaving a mark. I crawl out from under it, as the burning sensation travels across my body. The pain was unbearable as I bite back a scream.
"Naneth!" I scream as I try to open the doors to release me. It doesn't budge as the earth shook and I fell to the ground, hitting it with a loud thud as the air leaves my lungs. I sit up as pain was the only thing I felt, pain and loneliness. I was alone. I was afraid. Ada was dead, nana has left. I muffle my sobs with my knees as I gently rock on the ground to try and calm myself.
My eyes were closed as arms wrapped around me. I open them to see the brightest shade of golden hair before me. I glance up and meet icy blue orbs that somehow felt the exact opposite of how they looked. I felt the loneliness seep away as the sounds of fire and screams leave my ears. The ellon before me looked older, he had a crown on top of his head. I watch him but I did not feel fear nor worry.
I know his face.
He places a hand on my cheek and the warmth radiates through my body. I give in to the warmth as a peaceful darkness takes over me.
