CHLOE'S P.O.V
"Well, that was a complete failure," I say as we sit in a burger shop after school.
"Tell me about it," Kaitlin said putting her head down on the table of our stall.
"Don't be so down about it we still have plan B, right?" I say rubbing the top of her head from the other side of the table.
Plan B huh, I know she told me to get close to Momo, but that may cause some problems given that I need to act like me and Kaitlin are not getting along so well.
"You're right, so you really OK with it?" Kaitlin asked.
"Which part, the part where I act like we are not together or the part where I have to get close to someone you were close with?" I say leaning back in my chair.
"I know it's a tall order, but I need you now more than ever, if you get the proof then I can talk to her about it and I won't have to lose one of my best friends," Kaitlin said.
We got home and finished dinner, just as I was washing up the doorbell rang.
"I got it," Kaitlin said running to the door.
I didn't hear much, but she was talking to the guy for a while until,
"NO GET OUT!" She yelled.
I ran to the door to see a man dressed like he was trying to keep up with the kids, but was still able to look cool with a bunch of bags with tags from all over the world.
"Who's he?" I asked as the man looked at me.
"Who's the cutie?" The man asked.
"My new sister, mum got a new boyfriend with a daughter, this means that this time you're out of the equation for good dad." She said. Wait, dad.
"I know, I'm not trying to get back into your life..." He said but was cut off by Kaitlin.
"Then get the hell out before mum gets back!" She yelled.
"Relax sweetheart, it was your mum who called me and asked me to come." He said as he walked in looking around.
"Pretty nice place your mum found, I like it." He said.
"Don't get too comfortable." Kaitlin scowled.
"Roger that." He said with a laugh.
Kaitlin then went to her room, I knew that talking to her would make things worse and also could make our relationship fall apart, so I went to speak with her farther.
"So, you're my precious little girl's new sister, you the older or younger one?" He said with a smile making me realize that I never found out.
"You don't know, if you like, with your birthdate I can tell you." He said.
"9th of July," I said.
"Oh, you're the younger one." He said with surprise before returning to a smile.
"Look, I would like you to do something for me, something my younger brother did for me..." He said looking down.
"What?" I asked.
"Look after your sister, my little bro looked after me, I didn't get it back then, but now I see that family sticks together. I learned that the hard way, so if you'll look after my daughter for me through you I can do what I was meant to all those years ago. Please tell me that you'll do whatever it takes to make her happy." He said.
"Sure," I said, he smiled and thanked me.
"Oh, could you hide this somewhere? It's a gift and I know she won't take it if I'm here, she will do anything to make me take it back. I'll set it up before I leave without her seeing, plus her mother was the one who told me to get it." He said bringing a wrapped present out of one of his travel bags.
I take the present and place it behind the fridge.
"Do you mind if I ask why Kaitlin acted the way she did?" I asked.
"I've been wondering that myself." He said with a laugh.
"Well, it's gettin' late you should get some sleep, I'll take the couch." He says looking at the clock and making his way over to the couch.
I take a shower and then go to our room, I open the door and see Kaitlin sitting hugging her legs by the window as the moonlight pours in. Make her happy, in this situation I'm not sure how. That's it.
"Hey if you're looking to avoid your dad tomorrow would you like to go somewhere with me tomorrow out of town," I say not knowing to smile or not.
"Sure," Kaitlin says indifferently, not even turning to look at me.
The next day we get dressed and Kaitlin convinces me to sneak past her sleeping dad on the couch, we get on a train and for the whole journey, I see Kaitlin getting sadder and sadder. I'm not doing a good job of keeping her happy. We get off at the edge of town, we grab some lunch and get a train leading out of town another half an hour later we get off and I lead Kaitlin through my old town.
"Where are we going?" Kaitlin asked.
"To see my mum," I say.
We then end up at a shrine, we walk to the top and see a pathway with graves on either side, we walk down the path and I stop at one. I look at Kaitlin and she looks at me sadly and shocked.
"Chloe I'm..." I stop her.
"I've made my peace with it, it was a long time ago I was about 5 when it happened," I say.
I light a candle on the grave and close my eyes and pray, I then open my eyes.
"Hey, mum sorry it's been a while me and dad have moved so these visits will be less frequent than normal, oh, this is my new sister now, like you did with me, I have someone to look after," I say making Kaitlin tear up.
I hug her and keep holding her until she stops crying and we head home, we get home and Kaitlin's parents are sitting at the table.
"Hey...dad," Kaitlin said.
"Sweetheart," He said.
"I'm not angry with you because you left, I'm angry with you because you made no attempt to contact me not, even a letter." She said.
"I know, I am truly sorry I've learned the hard way that family stick together, I'm not looking for forgiveness. I just hope that I can be the kind of father I was meant to be a long time ago...Will you let me?" He asked I look at Kaitlin as she goes over this in her head.
"DAAADDY!" Kaitlin cries out running for a hug with her father.
I smile at her mum and my dad as she cries in his arms.
