MELL'S P.O.V

"So I heard someone's got some natural talent on the court," I said from behind Samantha as I find her in the halls.

"Oh, so you heard about that huh," Samantha said.

"Word travels fast the whole school is talking about our little volleyball prodigy our diamond in the rough," I said hugging her from behind.

"Get off," Samantha said wriggling her shoulders.

"So you gonna take them up and join the team they did invite you right?" I said hoping for a yes as I released her from my hug.

"I don't know I was invited but I'm not sporty at all it's not my thing," Samantha said.

"Oh well never mind not for me to say come on I'm meeting up with Logan and Jenny at lunch," I said and Samantha followed me down the hall.

We made it to the cafeteria and sat down not realizing that Hanna was already there we sat and saw her glaring at Samantha, in particular, I'm not sure why.

"And there is the volleyball superstar," Logan said.

"I haven't exactly joined the team yet," Samantha said.

"Ya yet which means you will join the team right?" Logan said.

"Do I have to?" Samantha said as she rested her chin on her arms that were on the table.

"If the rummers of your skills are to be believed then you have no choice but to join the team," I said.

"Will me being on the team make a difference?" Samantha said.

"With the skills that everyone is talking about you could be the one to get our volleyball team to the national tournament," I said.

"What do you mean?" Samantha said.

"This school has a very long and rich history of sports accomplishments and about two years ago the volleyball team was the most impressive having three national tournament first place trophies three years in a row," Logan said.

"Not to mention the fact that some of the team members were chosen to represent the school in world-class tournaments," Jenny said.

"And you think I am the one to breath new life bake into the volleyball team," Samantha said.

"No, we know you are the one to breath new life into the volleyball team," I said.

"She's right," Jenny said.

"And if you do join you'll have a significant other that can be there to cheer you on," I said.

"You do realise first off I need a significant other for that right" Samantha said.

"So join it will mack that part easy," I said.

"You guys are exhausting," Samantha said.

"And you're too shy," I said.

"I'm shy by design, by the way, what did you run off to do earlier?" Samantha asked.

"Oh right here," I said handing a sealed envelope to Samantha.

"What's this?" Samantha said.

"Concealed in that envelope is your invitation to Jackson's party this weekend, oh and don't lose it you'll need it to get in," I said.

"Wait she's going as well," Hanna said finally speaking.

"Jackson said I could invite a special guest," I said.

"And what about you know who?" Hanna said.

"Was invited by Jackson personally, about a week ago so no need," I said looking at my phone to check the date.

"Fine" Hanna said as she got up and walked away.

"So it's more like a wright of safe passage rather than an invitation," Samantha said holding the envelope I gave her.

"Yep a wright of safe passage through Jackson's front door," I said with a weird smile getting a laugh out of Samantha.

The 4 of us talk and joke for about another hour before the bell sound signalling us to get to our next class.

"What you got?" I asked the others.

"Maths," They all said in unison.

"It sucks that you two are in a different class to me and Samantha," I said.

"Ya but there is nothing we can do so enjoy the pain of not seeing my masterfully sculpted face for the next two hours as best you can," Logan said as him and Jenny got up to leave.

"You coming?" Jenny said as she got up seeing me still sitting.

"We're gonna hang back I wanna talk to Samantha for a bit," I said with a smile.

"Shouldn't we get going?" Samantha said as other kids began to leave the cafeteria.

"Ya but we're gonna let them get some distance ahead of us first," I said.

I see Logan and Jenny get to the door of the cafeteria and get up.

"That should be far enough you coming?" I said extending my hand to Samantha.

"So what did you want to talk to me about?" Samantha said as we walk to our class.

"Well this is more of a personal question so you don't exactly have to answer if you don't want to just so you know," I said.

"Ok now your weirding me out," Samatha said.

"Ya if you want to keep hanging out with us you might wanna get used to it," I said in a slightly apologetic tone.

"In that case, I'll try my best," Samantha said earning a smile from me.

"So my question is what is your relationship state like where are you at?" I ask not looking at her to hide the fact that even asking made me blush.

"What do you mean where am I at?" Samantha said.

"Ok as far as I see it there are three stages in a relationship status one you have a vague interest in the person you like them but not so much that it is a crush. Tow It is a crush but it is not a full-on crush do you know what a full-on crush is?" I said.

"More or less," Samantha said.

"That'll do now third and finally is in a relationship like Logan and Jenny they are on the dating level going doing stuff and staying over you know the things that couples do," I said.

"Right, and you want to know where I am on this?" Samantha said.

"In a nutshell," I said.

Samantha puts her hand to her chin for a long time.

"Like I said you don't have to answer it was just a question and I know how personal it was," I said.

"No it's fine I guess you could say I'm in between crush and interest," Samantha said.

"A subcategory huh," I said.

"Ya," Samantha said.

"That'll do for now," I said.

Just then the bell signalling the start of the next class went off.

"And we're late, sorry," I said.
