"Enough talking. Don't you dare to tell anyone about it." Zack put on his shoes and they ran through the corridor into a round room that forked into four more corridors. Excellent. Symbols that formed lettering ran over the wall.
"The noise will guide you, no hurry, time itself will get faster," Zack said.
The demon looked at the treasure hunter. "You can read this?"
He nodded. "I am omnilingual. I am able to read any language."
Lucan looked fascinated at his companion. The born treasure hunter. He pretended it was nothing special, but he had never heard of a demon who possessed this ability. It was invaluable.
Zack signaled to him a gesture to be quiet. Then he went from aisle to aisle, closed his eyes and heard. "Crap, I don't hear it."
Concentrated, Lucan activated his cat senses and went from aisle to aisle like Zack. First course – nothing. Not with the second either. At the third he stopped.
There. "A quiet noise. It has to be."
He nodded to him, then they walked down the aisle. They got into a large cave. Numerous stalactites hung from the ceiling, from which water dripped down. There were seven columns in the room. One directly at the entrance, the others distributed in the room. On each one was a round stone and an opening was emblazoned on the front.
"Another puzzle," Lucan said.
Zack nodded. There were squares everywhere on the floor. He threw a stone, which was immediately swallowed. "There is exactly one way. If we don't run it properly, we will be swallowed. " But which pillar did they have to go to?
"The noise will guide you, no hurry, time itself will be faster," Lucan repeated the words that stood on the wall.
"It must have something to do with water, because everything here was connected to the element of water," Zack said. But apart from the drops dripping from the stalactites, there was no running water here. Huh? "Lucan, do you notice anything about the stalactites?"
Lucan thought and concentrated on the drop. What could he mean by that? Wait.
"They all drip at different intervals and always at exactly the same distance."
His companion nodded. "No hurry, time itself will be faster," he said, pointing to the stalactite next to him, who had just dropped a drop of water.
"We have to go from the slowest to the fastest drop," Lucan said. Bingo! Now all they had to do was figure out the right order and pray that they weren't wrong. The Mazoku demon took an stone orb that rested on the pillar next to them. Then he went towards the first pillar. He was grabbed by the arm.
"What are you doing?" Zack asked him.
"I will go first. If something happens to me, it's not as bad as it is with you. I can fly and maybe free myself." His companion didn't like that at all. Reluctantly, he let him go.
When he took the first step on the tiles, he breathed a sigh of relief that he hadn't been devoured by the ground. Let's move on. Step by step, he worked his way up to the first pillar and placed the orb in the opening. A small quake engulfed the room and the tiles connected to form a path. Zack followed the demon.
"That went quite well. Where's the next one?"
"There in the back left," Zack said, pointing to the corresponding column. Then Lucan moved on after he took the next stone orb on the top of pillar in front of him. After what felt like an eternity, they had reached the last pillar. They had to be one hundred percent sure that they were heading for the right pillar. The intervals had become shorter and shorter and therefore more difficult to distinguish.
