Rob paced the cottage

Rob paced the cottage. Occasionally, he stopped and ran his fingers through his hair and sighed. He'd have to check his phone once more before he left. What was taking Nash so long? Was he a woman? Cayla took forever to get ready. Why was he thinking of Cayla? He began pacing again.

"What's wrong with you? I thought you worked things out with Phoebe last night. It took you long enough to walk her home."

He couldn't stop the smile that crossed his face or the thumping in his chest. Her lips were his drug.

Why the heck did I wait so long?

He took a good look at Nash and chuckled. "Do I know you?"

Instead of his usual black, he looked as if he raided Rob's own closet in his tan pants and dark green sweater. His green eyes looked lighter than when he wore black.

"I reckon I should make a good impression on your folks."

"My parents don't care what you wear. Did you really walk around the mall?"

"Not my usual date, but Morgan's a great girl. She helped me choose some clothes."

"Are you changing your image for a girl?"

"Heck no. It's cold in the north. I had two choices, warmer clothes or body heat."

"You know, these girls aren't as experienced as we're used to."

"What d'you mean? She's not shy."

"But Phoebe doesn't think Morgan has ever..."

"Ever?" Nash stared him down.

"Ever had sex before."

"That ever?"

"Yup." Robbie nodded.

"She told you about Morgan?"

"She's worried. Musicians have reputations."

"Not me, but I'm used to experienced women. Take Scarlett, we worked together, then she let me know what she wanted."

"Just tread easy."

"What about you?"

"I'm going slow."

"Lordy, two of them?"

Rob nodded. It was private and not something they should discuss. "We didn't have this conversation."

"What were you pacing about?"

"I wanted Pheebs to text me back. It's too soon to let anyone know things have changed between us."

Nash laughed. "A grown man keeping secrets from his folks."

He felt warm. "Let's just go. Pheebs will meet us when she's done working."

Phoebe's inexperience worried him. It was hard to know who would lose control first. It wasn't an if, but a when.

Nash was quiet as he drove across town. Robbie chuckled. "My parents are the nicest people I know. Don't be nervous."
