Nash was glad to be back in Maine, or was it out of North Carolina? Their visit had gone better than he could imagine. He and Law mended, but they still weren't as close as former womb mates should be.
Having Morgan helped because Law couldn't feel threatened. Savannah didn't want him, because she loved her husband. She wasn't the girl he had played with, and the woman she had become was still a stranger to him. She acted like a star-struck fan. The Nash his fans knew wasn't real. His sister-in-law didn't move past the public persona. She kept asking him to sing. He sang once, but every other time he joked about being on vacation.
Having Morgan by his side saved his entire trip. Returning to the little cottage felt familiar and comforting. As soon as he put his bags down, he picked up his old Gibson.
Morgan smiled. "You missed it."
"I had you to strum." His smile was genuine.
He had missed it, but she made everything better. She listened while he talked about his brother. He liked having no secrets. That could be a song. He jotted in his notebook. On Monday morning, he would be back at work, turning his notations into words people would want to hear.
They didn't enjoy the empty cottage before Phoebe arrived to welcome them back.
"Where's the Robster?"
She smiled. "Surfing."
"Other than all the snow, I've never seen so much. What'd we miss?"
Phoebe groaned. "We got outed."
Morgan sat up. "By who?"
"My Lilli showed up on Friday and told his Lily, who told his mother. Luckily, I got to my parents first."
"What did your daddy say?"
She shrugged. "He wasn't surprised. He said he might not threaten Robbie, because he knows he's a good man."
"Your daddy sounds like a good man."
Nash felt jealous because his friend had his girl with no constraints.
"So, what about you two? How was Nashville?"
"It was good." Nash answered vaguely although it had been stressful because of the evil twin.
Morgan looked up from her phone. Her eyes looked alarmed, ready for fight or flight, and she was keen on the latter.
"What's happened?"
"My mother. She says they want to meet you. I said not with Madison and she said we're sisters."
"Angel would kill us both."
"I thought I had problems when Robbie refused to date me because I'm too young."
Nash laughed. "I think you've gotten over the age bit."
"Morgan, did you like Nashville? Do you think you could live there?"
Morgan looked from Nash to Phoebe. "Do you think I should move?"
Phoebe shrugged. "If Robbie still lived in Nashville and we were what we are now, I would go to him. I would follow him anywhere."
Morgan didn't respond, but turned quiet. After Phoebe left, she made an excuse about laundry and settling in before work in the morning and left. Nash didn't fret like he once would. She needed time alone to think. She was a smart girl. In Nash's mind, there was only one solution. He would have to wait until Morgan figured it out on her own. He picked up his guitar to have patience and wait. Another song idea.
Phoebe arranged for Mike to come over so Nash could help him with some finger work. The guy was skilled on the guitar. He'd seen less skilled musicians making money in Nashville.
