CHAPTER 4

“You really should. Dahil sa oras na malaman kong may lalaki ka o kalandian, I will make sure that your life with me will be a living hell.”

His words and menacing voice still lingers my mind even if it’s now evening. His words were still stuck in my mind like a lecture I should memorize.

“So you should behave like a faithful wife does.”

So does he. Why would I be just the one to behave and be faithful if we’re both in this marriage? I really should know him more. I really should think always that I married a man like him. He’s not as kind as I thought because from the very start he never showed me softness. He’s always rough and shows no emotions at all. I should be careful because I don’t know what would happen next if I did something wrong.

Baka kaparehas lang din siya nina Mommy at Daddy. He will be rough at me, too. He will also be cruel to me every time I did something wrong and unpleasant.

“Ma’am Hailey, handa na po ang hapunan. Pinapatawag na po kayo ni Sir, naroon na po siya sa hapag.” bumuntong hininga ako nang marinig ko ang sinabi ng kasambahay mula sa pintong hindi tuluyang nakasara.

“Sige po, susunod ako.” Tumayo ako mula sa pagkakahiga sa kama at inayos ang sarili.

Nakapagbihis na ako ng isang simpleng maxi dress na hanggang tuhod lamang ang haba at isang kulay kremang tsinelas na bagong bili. Hindi ko alam kung saan ito nanggaling pero ibinigay ito ng kasambahay kanina at sinabing ito ang susuotin ko rito sa bahay.

I left the room and went downstairs. Iginiya pa ako ng kasambahay na mukhang bata pa sa daan patungong dining area. When we arrived there, I saw Callum sitting on the chair while his chin was on the back of his hands.

I cleared my throat before walking towards the dining table. I sat on my desired seat and did not look at Callum beside me. I felt his gaze at me but I refused to look at him even if it’s bothering me, big time.

“You’ll work tomorrow?” He broke the silence between us.

The maids started to took care of our foods. Akma pang lalagyan ako ng kanin ng kasambahay sa plato pero inilingan ko ito. Hindi naman na nila obligasyong lagyan ‘yon ng kanin dahil hindi naman din ako bata para asikasuhin pa. The maid bowed her head a little before continuing pouring some water on my glass. I look at Callum and nodded curtly.

“I was absent for days now so I need to go back to work tomorrow. Masyadong mabait ang boss ko para abusuhin ko ‘yon. Pinagbigyan niya akong um-absent ng ilang araw.” sambit ko habang naglalagay ng pagkain sa plato.

Ang buong dining area ay wala nang bakas ng kahit anong kalat na naganap kanina. Malinis nang muli at maaliwalas. Napatingin ako sa harapan ko at nakita ang malawak na hardin doon. The garden was illuminated by the cove lights from somewhere that gives the best view from here, to look from the glass wall here.

“Alright, your driver is Benjie. He will drive you to your office and fetch you after work. If you will go anywhere other than your work or your parent’s house, you should call or text me first. I want to know your whereabouts.” Tumango na lamang ako sa sinabi niya.

I don’t if I felt suffocated or what because I think I’m used to my parent’s tightness. For me it’s kind of fine.

“Uhh... I don’t have your number,” saad ko nang maalala kong wala akong numero niya kaya hindi ko naman siya matatawagan o maitetext.

“I’ll give it to you later,” tumango ako at nagpatuloy na sa pagkain.

Nang matapos kaming kumain ay umakyat na ako sa kuwarto at nagpaalam naman si Callum na pupunta sa opisina niya rito sa mansyon at may gagawin daw. I did mind it and just walk towards our room.
