Kate's POV
"You're going to be okay, Kate. Just hang in there" I hear Caroline's muffled voice say.
A whimper escapes my lips as I'm thrust back into the excruciating pain tearing through me.
"Please. . . it. . .hurts. . . " I moan.
"We're almost there" The warmth encompassing me vibrates with Eric's recognizable baritone. He's running with me in his arms.
I drag in a ragged breath as the searing pain stabs at me repeatedly "E-Eric. . ."
"Hold on" Eric growls lowly. There is no maliciousness in his tone, just a desperation I'd never heard from him before.
"I-I c-an't. . . "
"If you give up now, you're a coward" Eric snaps as I whimper "Now's the time to prove me wrong, Kate. Show me you're strong enough for Dauntless and fight this!"
I raise my head to gaze at him and it takes tremendous effort to keep it erect. Crazed in pain, I rest my forehead against the side of his jaw "But. . . if I don't. . . end up m-making it-"
"Shut up-" Eric hisses.
"Just know. . . " I swallow hard, my breathing coming out in shallow pants "I wouldn't. . . trade our time together" I smile weakly "for anything"
"What is she talking about? Is she losing it?" I hear Jesse say.
"I said shut up!" Eric's thunderous roar echoes off the stone walls as he subtly cradles me closer to his body "Spare me the sappy bullshit and keep yourself fucking breathing, alright?"
I smiled weakly at him and raise my hand to his face. I barely touch him for a moment before my hand dropped, leaving a bloody trail on his face.
Eric's arms tighten around me before he picks up speed and jogs faster. Everything around me swims in a nauseating motion. I drop my head back on Eric's shoulder before closing my eyes against it. Soon the sound of his boots gradually fade until all I can hear is white noise.
I could feel myself slipping and being dragged back into the fuzzy darkness. Then with a deep sigh I allow it to embrace me.

Beeeeeeeeeeeee. . .
"Come on, Kate, you can't leave us now. Alright, go!" Jon shouts.
"Clear!" Trinity shouts.
THUMP!
. . . eeeeeeeeeeee. . .
"You can't give up. Stay with us! Again!" Jon shouts.
"Clear!" Trinity shouts.
THUMP!
. . . eeeeeeeeeeee. . .
"There are people here waiting for you. So don't you dare disappoint them, you hear me?" Eric shouts.
"Eric, you shouldn't be in here. Someone get him out!" Jon shouts.
"Clear!" Trinity shouts with great determination.
THUMP!
. . . eeeeeeeeeeee. . .
"This isn't working" one of the nurses says.
"Try again. One more time" Jon shouts over the chaos.
"Clear!" Trinity shouts.
THUMP!
. . . eeeeeeeeeeeep. . . beep. . . beep. . .beep. . .
