Kate's POV

I briefly crack open my eyes and notice that's it's almost dawn. As much as I hated it, I knew that I had to wake up soon since today was the first official day training the initiates. I hadn't gotten much sleep last night, being that Eric and I had been physical during most of it, but that didn't matter. The day needed to go on.

Maybe a few more minutes.

I continued to lay in bed, thinking about last night. I know what I'm doing with Eric is wrong and it will most likely bite me in the ass, but I couldn't help how I felt about him. I thought about him all the time and last night I just wanted to be with him. . .

The night before. . .

When I got to Eric's apartment I stood outside for a few minutes, contemplating whether or not I really wanted to do this. The guilt I felt knowing that I was doing this to Jax yet again was indescribable. But I knew what I was getting myself into coming here.

I finally got the nerve to knock on his door. At first there was no answer. When I knocked louder a second time Eric finally responded.

"Come in" I heard him shout.

When I go inside I see Eric sitting in his couch with a bunch of folders surrounding him. I'm assuming they were the initiates files, but last I saw they were piled on my desk.

"You're late" he commented dryly. He hadn't even bothered to look up at me as I walked over to him.

"If your busy I can go" I said softly.

He was only in his sweats and his chest was bare. His hair looked like he had been running his fingers through it recently. He must have been annoyed about something. He shook his head at me and I bit back a smile.

"I'm almost done" he stared blankly.

I sat down on the chair opposite him, looking down at all the files. I noticed he was reading Tris's file intently.

"What are you doing?" I ask.

"Working" his eyes briefly looked up from over the file he's reading.

I roll my eyes "I know your working. I meant why are you reading the initiates files?"

"I'm just trying to get to know them better" he answered sarcastically.

"Sure you are" I eye him suspiciously.

Eric gives me an annoyed smirk and I laugh before heading to his bookshelf. I run my fingers along the spines as I look for a book to read. Eric was incredibly organized with his books. They were all organized into different genres and I scanned for the fiction books. To be honest I really wanted to read Alice's Adventures in Wonderland since I haven't read it since I was a child, but that wasn't an option right now. So I picked up a book I've never read before, Emma by Jane Austen. I curled back up in the chair and began to read while Eric worked.

Without even noticing it I had begun to hum a tune that I had heard years ago. I remember humming it to Kylie to help her go to sleep at times. She often had nightmares as a child. There were no words to the song, at least not ones that I had ever heard. Only a tune that I'd overheard being whistled one day while passing the Abnegation sector.
