I sat in the relatively quiet dining hall early the next morning. I had brought Eric his breakfast prior to avoid seeing him. All he had to do was warm it up; simple. I tried to focus my attention on the day ahead. I needed to apologize to Jax again for running out on him. I admit now that I used Eric's messages as an excuse to not go through with sleeping with him. I knew I was going to have to make it up to him. The thing is did I want really to? 

Just them my tablet vibrates on the table and I see there's a message from Jax.

Jax:
Hey Kate. I had a great time last night, up until you had to leave. We need to plan another night soon. I could still feel your soft body. . .

"Uuugghh!" I closed the message, not wanting to see the rest of what he had to say. It felt weird seeing it from Jax.

Instead I returned back to my meal to take the last few bites of pancake left. As I look up I immediately see Four making his way over to my table. Something to take my mind off of Eric and Jax.

"Morning sunshine" I smile up at him.

"Morning" He sits down in front of me and pours himself a cup of coffee.

"Your super broody this morning"

Four suddenly frowns "I don't brood"

"You could've fooled me" I mumble "Anyway, do you have any updates for me?"

He nods his head "Alaric finally responded. He insists they had nothing to do with the attack"

"Do you believe him?"

"Yes, I do"

"If they had nothing to do with the attack then who did?" I ask confused.

"Apparently a rogue factionless group lead by this guy Edgar. The factionless have divided. Not all of them agree with Evelyn, they want to be on their own"

"So all those times we've had an incident involving the factionless. . ."

"It was Edgar's group" Four finished my sentence.

"Even the attack on Erudite?" I ask after a brief moment.

"That I can't answer because I don't know" Four answers unsure.

"It had to of been since Alaric claims it wasn't Evelyn"

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves here"

"Well what if they are planning their next attack?  Dauntless could be next. We are very vulnerable right now, being that we are down a leader with another leader injured"

"Leadership is on top of it. We've got extra patrols out and installed more cameras throughout the city. We got our eye on things Kate, don't worry"

"It's hard not to" I say under my breath.

"Are you okay? You seem on edge?" He asked concerned.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just some guy troubles"

"Do you want to talk about it?"

I sigh as I play with the last piece of pancake in my plate. Four was one of my best friends so I was somewhat comfortable confiding in him.

"It's Jax. I really like him, but. . ."

"Buts aren't good"

"I'm confused about my feelings for him. Like I said, I like him, he's such a nice guy and so cute, but I don't feel that. . . thing"
