Chapter 40 (Answers)

"Kate, we got a message"

Damon takes his hand away from my mouth and quietly motions for me to follow him out into the hall. I look around once again to make sure everyone was asleep before I followed him out. Once in the hall Damon notices the bruises on my face from earlier.

"Oh shit, do they hurt?" He asked concerned.

"I'm fine. Damon, what did the message say?" I whispered.

"Not here. Come with me"

He takes my hand and leads me away from the dorms. We walk along the darkened corridors, trying to avoid the cameras.

"Damon, where are we going?" I ask half asleep.

He doesn't say a word as he leads me into one of the stairwells. A few minutes later we are standing in front of Four's apartment. 

"What are we doing here?"

I give Damon a confused look as he knocks on the door four times, then waits and repeats his action. Four quickly opens the door and motions for us to come inside. Once we are inside Four sees the damage he has done to my face. His big brown eyes look with concern as he gently skims his finger tips along my bruise.

"Are you okay?" He asks.

"Yeah" I say, trying to hide my blush.

Where did that come from?

"I'm sorry Kate. I tried my hardest not to be so rough" he explained.

"It's really fine, Four. Everyone was watching. You did what you had to"

He has a apologetic smile on his face as he leads us over to his couch and sits across from us. Damon takes out the device Alaric has given us and hands it over to him.

"Wait, your the other informant!" I blurt out in shock.

Four nods as he examines the phone.

"We've spent so much time together and you never once mentioned anything to me. Why?" I demand, a bit annoyed.

"Protocol" Four said nonchalantly.

"Protocol?" I shouted confused.

"Calm down. There are rules I needed to follow so my cover wouldn't get blown" Four tried to explain.

I turn towards Damon "You knew the whole time, didn't you?"

"Not the whole time. It's a long story" Damon responded.

"I really don't appreciate being left in the dark here. I feel like such a idiot now" I stood up shouting.

"Don't fucking yell at me, I'm not the only one keeping secrets here!" Damon shouted back.

I angrily fold my arms "What are you even talking about?"

Before I can say anything else Damon cuts me off.

"I didn't tell you because you've been sleeping with the enemy" Damon shouted angrily.

"Wait, what?" I shouted.
