The next morning Caroline and I woke up extra early to go for a run around the compound. The adrenaline rush helped take our minds off of our fears landscapes today. Afterwards we quickly showered and got dressed. Grabbing a quick breakfast, we headed over to the sim room and waited for everyone else to show up.

"Are you nervous?" She asked me.

Sitting Indian style on the chair, I sat leaning my head on Caroline's shoulder "I'm always nervous going in"

"Me too. They say it gets easier going in but I don't think it ever will" she said sadly.

I wrap my arms around her while we sat in silence. Four showed up shortly and nodded at us in acknowledgment before walking inside the little room. A few minutes later the rest of the initiates showed up, with Eric following behind.

"Let's go, Hector" Eric instructed. He looked bored.

Hector stood up and Eric followed him through the other door. We continued to sit in silence until Hector came out ten minutes later. I noticed we all seemed to be getting better with our time. Jesse went in next, then Damon. They were calling us in according to rank so I knew I was next. I closed my eyes and waited for my name to be called.

"Kate" Four called.

Caroline gives my hand a tight squeeze before I get up. I walk through the door and automatically go to sit in the chair. Eric's eyes are on me the whole time. I try not to look back at him. Four connects the electrodes to my forehead and chest as Eric stares impatiently.

"By all means Four, take your time" Eric says sarcastically.

Four rolls his eyes as he injects the serum into my neck.

"Remember, don't hesitate" Four whispered in my ear.

I nodded right before everything went dark.

I was in a room in Erudite and one of the doors swung open.  I knew what was coming. Eric would be walking through that door any second. My hand automatically gripped onto the gun fastened on my hip. My breath caught and I couldn't breath. I could feel my heart starting to race.

Here I go.

Suddenly Eric walked into the room. He walked straight towards me and I quickly lift the gun up, aim, and pull the trigger. The bucket goes directly through Erics head, hitting Jeanine right behind him as well.

I wake up back in the sim room. Eric's grey eyes bore into me as I sit up. Looking directly at Four, he gives me a slight nod, letting me know that I did good. Before he can say anything Eric beats him to it.

"How did you do that?" He asked suspiciously.

"How did I do what?" I asked confused.

"You were in and out of there in less than a minute"

Shit, was I too fast?

"Well I guess I'm that good" I say smirking.

"Good job, initiate" Four chimes in.

Eric still looked skeptical. He's smart, he knows something is up.

"Can I leave now?" I ask narrowing my eyes at him.

He doesn't answer but Four nods. I leaped out of the chair and turned to snub Eric before slamming the door. The second the door was closed I bolted through the waiting room, ignoring everyone on the way out. I was afraid that Eric would come after me and question me some more. I continued until I was some distance away and saw more people from Dauntless. Wanting to be alone I went up to the roof and remained there until some time in the late afternoon. By then I was starving and went to the dining hall, hoping they were still serving food. There were only a few people inside, including Dylan.
