„19. August 2085. Hi, I am Fabian Meyer, and I am very proud to be a part of Metamorphosis. Without this project, I am sure, mankind won't survive global warming. As cruel as it sounds, we have to change the human genome within the next 10 years, to create humans, who are more adapted to the sun and hard living conditions than we normal humans are. And sadly enough, we have to succeed fast, because time works against us. We can't wait for evolution to do the job or within the next 5-6 generations there won't be any humans on this planet left", the young blond man said, sitting in a laboratory.
My friends, who were present in the room, were stunned to silence, unable to process, what we heard and saw for many reasons. In front of us a picture was speaking and moving...A man was talking to us out of that picture...HOW was that possible???
Than the scenery changed in the picture. We saw hills and green gras, horses and sheep and a gigantic round white dome. Next to the dome you could see many little houses scattered around ...just like the houses we saw at the Islendigur.
The man spoke again. „The project Metamorphosis is located here in Iceland, far away from prying eyes. We are working interdisciplinary in an international team with the best scientists worldwide. Our goal is to modify the human genome with traits and characteristics of certain animals. Special animals like the ocelot, fire salamander, water buffalo or shark. These animals have traits, that are very beneficial in a world with rising heat and increasing water level. We work with donations of human egg cells and semen. I have high hopes, that we'll find the key for our survival in the future."
Again, the scenery changed. The blond man, Fabian, looked a little bit older and distraught. His eyes were dull, wrinkles formed on his face.
„3. July 2105. They lied. Those devils lied to us and we idiots fell for it. We all believed their lies. I must admit, they were really good in deceiving us. Everything seemed so logical. We need to change as humans, to be tougher, more robust, stronger and resistant to climate extremes. And we carried out their schemes like sheep. This whole thing, Metamorphosis, isn't about survival. It isn't about the climate change or global warming. It's about constructing soldiers and slaves. A new world order. They want to build a world, where we pure genetical humans keep the control over the new formed genetical units. In the ranks of us scientists were those, who conspired with the authorities. Those scentists manipulated our experiments and sidetracked us. While we worked on the main road, they used our researches and our results, to do the main job. And they succeeded! Now, as the first generation of these newborn babies grow up, we see the differences. The kids, we normal scientists created, are a perfect modification of the human genome. We only enhanced our human traits and built stronger humans with more endurance."
Fabian sighed, rubbing his tired eyes. „The other scientists, they developed hybrids with animal instincts and skills that are...inhuman. The kids, who were born out of these experiments, have fangs, claws, are incredible strong and very antagonistic. We had to separate these children from the others, because these new creatures are a real threat. It was so obvious, they were made to be perfect soldiers and strong working slaves. And the scientists did something really diabolic. I don't know how...I don't know, if it was only coincidentally. But...these new creatures have limits in their cognitive architecture. They can't learn like humans do. We put them all together in a school program and it was very obvious: Their instincts, their skills are to survive and to fight - not to build, messure and learn, like we humans do."
He sipped a red fluid out of a glass. "Strange things happened: Girls were born with a blue dot on their forehead. They are strong, big, lean musceled and powerfull. We called these girls 'Laidir' as a reference to our Icelandic surrounding. They were all born without an uterus."
Fabian ran his hand through his hair. "Another thing makes my head ache. These creatures developed special abilities on a psychic level: Some can read emotions. And they can detect human emotions the best. I think, this was implemented in their genes too, to understand the emotions of their superiors, the humans, and to act accordingly."
Fabian shook his head in disgust. "I don't know, how they did it...or if it occured in a natural way after we played God with the genome. But this ability exceeds our knowledge. We even found creatures, that were bound together in some strange kind of bond...and to humans also."
He watched straight out of the picture into our eyes. "It seemed, like these creatures knew by instinct, who their best reproduction partner was. And it went even further than that. After meeting your partner in life, the creature couldn't rest, couldn't live, untill the bound partner gave in to the relationship willingly. This extrem bond was beyond everything we could messure with scientific methods. We called it the "destined syndrom."
