Bailey

Trying to talk to Marty became impossible with practice. Adam wanted to practice throughout the day and evening. Any time Marty called, Adam would make me cut our phone calls short. When I did get a chance to call Marty, it was late.

Then one day, Reese called me while taking a break from practice. As we talked, Adam interrupted our phone call.

"Bailey, we need to practice. Tell your little friend you'll talk to him later."

"It's not Marty."

"Oh?" Adam quirked his brow.

"It's Reese."

Adam's lips curled into a smile. "I'll give you a few minutes." Adam walked away.

"Sorry. Adam finally gave me a break."

Yeah, it seems Adam is a dick.

I blew air past my lips.

Hang on.

There was scuffling from the other end until Reese returned to the phone.

"What are you doing?"

Talking to you. A familiar voice said.

My lips curved upward.

Don't say my name. Act like you're talking to Reese.

"Okay. So, how's your summer going?"

I'm working my ass off, but it's allowing me to learn the trade.

"That's great because you've wanted to work with your brother."

Marty chuckled. Nice cover.

"I learned from the best."

Listen carefully. Each of the girls will call you. When numbnuts checks your phone, he won't suspect a thing.

"Yeah, I bet Devin agrees."

Has dipshit tried anything with you?

Adam glanced at me with his brow quirked.

"I've been avoiding rotten food."

Marty chuckled. Don't worry. A few more weeks until we returned to school.

"Bailey! We need to practice!" Adam said.

I nodded.

Just a few more weeks. Hang in there.

I ended my call, slid my phone into my bag, and returned to practicing our routine with Adam. The only thing that made this summer program bearable was Marty was returning in a few weeks.

After we finished for the night, I gathered my stuff.

Adam approached me before I left. "Would you grab a bite with me?"

"I can't."

"Why not?" Adam gave me a coy smile.

"Adam, it's late. I want to go home and take it easy."

"We could hang out."

"It's better if we stick to keeping our relationship professional."

"Is it because of your little friend?"

"Marty has nothing to do with my decision."

"Are you sure?"

My lips narrowed in a thin line as I crossed my arms. "Positive. Now excuse me." I turned and walked to the doors.
