I was left speechless as I watched her walk up the stairs

My phone rang catching my attention and I fished it out of my pocket to see the caller ID

Mason

"We're waiting for you" he said as soon as I put my phone to my ear

"Something came up, we're not coming" I said

"Alright"

Silence sipped in

I was about to cut the call but he stopped me

"She doesn't want to come doesn't she"

"Yeah" I answered after a while

"Okay" was all he said before cutting the call

I put down my phone away from my ear as I buried myself in thought, Serah was a complicated woman

She agreed on marrying me but avoids me all the time, she's impudent when I talk to her, and what confuses me more is the fact that she married me and we haven't even spent ten minutes in a room together

If we exclude the night I had a fever

Why was she acting this way, like she didn't want to do anything with me

'She'd never agree to marry you without a proper reason' Mason's words rang inside my head

Was there really another reason why she married me?

Because if she agreed to marry me out of free will she'd be giving me her outmost attention and try to win me over by now

So far I hadn't seen any of that

I was starting to see what Mason was talking about, I should've heard him out that day

I hope it's not too late when you find out, his words rang inside my mind again

If there's anything I never want to experience in my life is regret, given Serah's actions and what Mason said, something happened for sure

Not wanting my brother's words to come to pass, I dialed his number

"We're about to eat, you know the rules... No calls on the table" Mason said immediately he answered my call

"What did you find out about Serah" I cut to the chase

"Talk to her father, you'll get more from him" he said

"It's late" I sighed

"Then make a day"

"Hmm" I nodded

The line went silent

"I'm glad you came back to your senses" .ason said after a few seconds

"I didn't lose it, I was just being reasonable" I defended myself

He chuckled

"Right, well you know she's a good woman... Don't let her slip from your fingers, you guys will make a great couple ...if there's any chance of you guys being an item, that is"

I scoffed, this boy was still rooting for me to find love

"Don't get your hopes up Mace" I said "whatever's happened has destroyed whatever feelings she had for me"

"She liked you?" He sounded interested

I smiled as I remembered how much she carried herself around me back then, it was obvious I had an effect on her somehow

"I know she had feelings for me, she did a bad job hiding it" I said

"I see hope for a better future" he chuckled "look I gotta go, dad's calling"
