28. Shattered

When Robin gets to the hospital are barely parks I fly out of her car and run to the entrance.
"Wait up." Max cries
I don't care to listen and head in going straight to the lady at the front desk.

"I'm here to see Ellen Dillinger." I say in a rush.
The lady looks at me then looks back down and starts typing. My friends finally catch up to me and stand behind me waiting to hear what's going on.
"Hold on I'll be right back." The lady tells me getting up and going to a back room.
"What's going on?" Nancy asks
"I don't know she just told me to hold on then went to the back room."

The lady soon comes back out and tells us to take a seat and someone will be with us soon.

We all sit down and my anxiety starts to get to me so bad that my leg starts to bounce. How long will I have to sit here? What's going on and why can't they tell me what's going on? I fell Robin gently put her hand on my shoulder and I look over at here.

"We're here for you Jade, just know that."

I shake my head acknowledging he words when i see an officer come up to the front desk and the lady points to me so I stand up.

"Jade." He say coming over to me.
"Yes, where is my mom?" I ask "Is she ok?"
"Im officer Barker, I spoke to you on the phone, and yes she is alive and in a room, but we wanted to let you know it was a pretty bad accident and from what we were told by a bystander it looks like someone ran her off the road and her car flipped into a ditch."

My eyes widen and hands shoot up to my face covering my mouth trying to hold back a cry.

"We're not sure if it was on purpose or just an accident but do you know anyone who would want to hurt your mom?" He asks me.
Only one person cam to mind.
"Her ex husband Ken, but we haven't heard from him in almost 4 years."
The officer takes a small notebook out and starts writing in it.
"Is his last name Dillinger as well."
"No it's Miller, we changed back to my moms maiden name after we left him."
He writs that down.
"Where does he live?"
"Not here he's in Colorado, I don't know the address."
"It's ok , will be checking up on him see if she's been in town or anything."
"Can I see my mom now please." I ask

Officer Barker motions to the lady behind the desk.

"I'll get a nurse to take you up but since visiting hours are over only you and one other can go up there for a little bit." She tells me
I look back at Robin Max and Nancy.
"I'll go with you, if you want." Robin says.
"Max and I can wait for you here." Nancy tells me.
"Ok." I manage to say.

The lady behind the counter asks for our names and writs them down on a visitor's bag and hands them to us. Then a nurse I know come out from the double doors .

"Linda." I say
"Oh Jade I'm so sorry." She says giving me a hug. I hug her back. She then pulls back and looks at me.
"Fallow me and I'll take you to see her."
Robin and I fallow her back to the elevators and head up to the 3rd floor. While going up I turn to Linda
"Why was my mom even in a car? I thought she was working."
"She was picking up some food on her brake and on her way back is when it happened."

I feel my heart starts to hurt more and im doing everything i can not to cry right now. When the doors of the elevator open up we head down the hall to rom 305.

"Jade, before you go in I think that you should know your mom hit her head really hard and right now , we'll...." She trails off for a second. "There's no easy way to say but she's in a coma."
My heart right away sinks to the floor.
"What." I say as I feel my hands begin to shake, Robin sees this and she grabs one of them holding it tight. I look over at her and she give me a squeeze.
"Do you want to go in and see her now."
