𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐭 𝐮𝐩. While Nancy and Robin went off to investigate whatever mysterious lead Nancy had, the others drove across town to Ms Kelley's house. It was agreed between them that Max was to be the one to go in and talk to the older woman. Although Lily also saw the counsellor each week, they thought Max would be more fitting. She lived in the trailer park, so she had a better excuse for asking about Chrissy, than Lily did.

They watched Max disappear into the house and Steve took it upon himself to say, "She's in" To the other two.

"I'm missing collarbones, not eyes" Dustin said, dryly.

Steve scowled at him. Lily, on the other hand, remained silent. She was still feeling a little irked at Steve for making her come with him. She could see his point of view perfectly, but part of her couldn't help but feel left out at the thought that the girls were chasing a new, potentially useful, lead without her. She didn't need to tell Steve any of this, her body language said it all. Her arms were crossed and she'd turned her body away from him.

Eventually, Dustin cleared his throat, "Are we not gonna talk about how you went all mushy for Lily earlier?"

"I didn't" Steve protested.

"Oh, yeah? What was the 'I love you and I'd never forgive myself if something happened to you' about then?"

"Shut up, Henderson" Steve grumbled.

From besides him, Lily couldn't help but giggle. "You did go soft. There's no way you would have said that about a girl a few years ago, least of all with an audience".

"You're different. I've not-" He glanced at Dustin, worried about sounding too 'mushy' again. Reluctantly, he finished, in a low voice, "I've not loved someone like I love you".

Dustin, who overheard him, said, "Try telling Nancy that".

Immediately, both Lily and Steve turned to stare at him in surprise. "What did you just say?" Lily asked, puzzled.

"I said, try telling Nancy that" He repeated, innocently. Then, when they continued to stare at him, he rolled his eyes, "Oh, come on! I can't have been the only one who noticed she wouldn't stop looking at Steve earlier".

"That's bullshit, man" Steve scoffed.

Dustin made a high-pitched noise of uncertainty. "I mean, she and Jonathan have been having problems lately-"

"Says who?"

"Mike. He hears them talking on the phone sometimes".

Steve took a moment to think. Eventually, he shrugged, "Nancy was looking at me, so what? She broke up with me ages ago. A look doesn't mean anything, you asshole".
