𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐲, the death of Will Byers was all anyone was talking about and Jonathan Byers was once again the subject of many conversations. Will's body had been pulled from Hawkins quarry the previous night and news had travelled fast. It was sad, but it was also a relief that nothing seriously bad had happened, as the conspiracies that had been circling had left a lot of people unnerved.

Lily, who hadn't known who Will was until earlier that week, had found out the news from her mom. "Did you hear about Will Byers?" She asked Cindy. They had just walked past one of the Missing posters Jonathan had pinned up at the school, and it had jogged Lily's memory.

Cindy nodded, "I feel bad for Jonathan, though. I heard he was close to his brother, so it must be hard for him".

"Yeah, that sucks-" Lily began, but before she could finish her sentence, Steve rounded the corner.

"I need to speak to you both" He said, pulling them into the nearest empty classroom and closing the door. He ran a hand through his hair, "Nancy told the cops about Barbara. She thinks something bad has happened to her".

"The cops?" Lily repeated, "Have they said anything?"

He shook his head, "No, not yet, but it means they'll want to question us all about Tuesday night. If my dad finds out about the beers and the party, and the whisky-"

"Slow down!" Lily stopped him, "First of all, the cops might not need to question all of us, and second, even if they do, surely we can just leave out the alcohol part".

"Yeah, but what if someone slips up? You know what Carol and Tommy are like, they won't take this seriously" Steve replied, "And what if they tell our parents? Both of you are meant to be on house arrest".

Lily groaned, "Shit, I didn't think of that".

"So, Nancy thinks something bad happened to Barbara that night?" Cindy asked, speaking up for the first time.

"I dunno. She said she went back to the woods by my house to look for her yesterday, and she saw some guy in a mask, with no face-"

This caught Lily's attention, "Wait, a guy with no face?"

"That's what she told me, but she seemed confused about it" Steve shrugged, "But that's not the problem. If the cops want to talk to all of us, I need both of you to not mention the alcohol or anything like that".

"Yeah we won't, but did Nancy say anything else about what she saw? Like, anything about his height?" Lily asked, wondering if she'd seen the same creature as Nancy.

"Well-" Steve paused, "She said they were tall, but that was about it" He looked at her, puzzled, "Why?"

"No reason" She lied. She didn't want to bring up that she'd possibly seen the same thing, partly because the time to say something had passed, but also because she still refused to believe such a creature could exist.
